The fisheye is the Peleng 8mm. $199. It's a manual lens. No auto-focus here. The thing is, I set the focus on one setting. I did a lot of testing and regardless of whether I was focusing on something 1/2 meter or 300 meters away, I use the same setting. The lens will do f/3.5, but, it really won't do f/3.5... It looks good at f/5.6 and looks great at f/8. Unless you are very close to the subject. Then it looks better at f/11. Go figure.
Anyone interested in going to Tallulah Gorge this Saturday?
Hey, I like that lens. I'm a manual focus kind of guy anyway...
Wish I could go to the gorge but I am headed to the booming metropolis of Newnan for the day.
Speaking of things to do, the tour de Georgia is going to be in my neck of the woods on Thursday. I plan on scouting a good shooting location on Sunday. I've already started sniffing at work and by tomorrow I'm pretty sure I will have the beginnings of a sore throat. By thursday I have a feeling it will be pretty bad. So if anyone else thinks they are going to be sick this time next week come on up and we will shoot some bikers. (Always wanted to say that!)
Hopefully we will be in the same area soon and you will let me check that lens out. See ya
Rich, I really like that first picture, really nice depth and color. I like the placement of the falls with the benchs in view on the left too. I haven't done any IR but have an old D60 that I have thought about converting. Your IR shot is very interesting.
Robin, Really like that first shot but your water fall is tilted in the second one. Kind of confusing to the eye because you have a tree that curves to the right from the base upwards and it looks pretty straight at the bottom but the water should be falling straight down.
Robert, I am trying to decide on whether to try and make it somewhere to photograph the Tour now. I'm a cyclist too and have cycling friends that want to go up in the mountains on Saturday. They are not photographers but they all went with me last year. If we get something together I will let you know.
I am scouting areas for the section up here. THere is a ton of buzz about this section since it is the first time it will actually go in to Chattanooga. They are estimating 15,000+ for the route which is kind of amazing

I noticed the tilt on the second shot. Part of this is due to the tree that leans and the wind blowing the waterfall. From that angle, if I had tilted the camera, it might have caused other perspective issues. I just liked the photographer vs the waterfall. The tilt took away from this. And you're right. It is awkward. I could probably rotate it a little.
You can see the leaning trees and the effect of the wind blown waterfall in this next photo. I kind of liked the water falling in sheets due to the wind and tried to capture this. I was also having a little trouble slowing down the shutter speed for traditional motion blur due to bright lighting. A neutral density filter is now on my list.
My family saw the pictures and they wanted to see in person. So this time I got a Permit and we crossed over and walked down the stream. It was fun but hard "work". I was kind of upset to se that when I got to the top all my pictures were taken in "basic / small size" oh well still they were good, at least for web and small prints.
I'm glad you liked it. It was fun getting out and taking pictures again. I converted my D70 myself. It has some dust (bunnies) trapped behind the IR filter but I just don't want to open it again. PS takes care of this faily easy too.
OK Guys. The air show is coming in less than 2 weeks. I have learned a that with the closing of NAS Atlanta and with the ever increasing air traffic in the Metro Atlanta area this will be the last major air show. So if you ever wanted to see the Blue Angels this is your chance. The show is Apr. 29-30. Parking lots open at 8:00 am and the shuttle busses start running at 8:30. I am planning on making the Sunday show. I am not sure what time the actual show starts but the Blue Angels are scheduled at 3:00. I went for the last show and Sunday was much less busy. If anyone is interested in meeting up and car pooling let me know. Maybe we can get an email list together. Also my suggestion is to go in from the Atlanta Road side of the base and not the busier Cobb Pkwy side.
I have included a link to the show at the end of this post. Please read the security page and choose your gear accordingly. They are much stricter this year. No coolers, no backpack, no carryall bags. Portable chairs are allowed but not in a bag. It appears that we need to pick one lens. I am now rethinking my selection. I was planning on taking my 200 1.8 and a TC or 2 but now I am not sure about hauling that sucker around. Maybe the Canon shooters and Nikon shooters may want to get together and each get a lens arsenal and swap out throughout the day.
For those of you interested in shooting the "Tour de Georgia" this sunday in Alpharetta, I'd like to do the same thing we did last year. I contacted Carlos at Honda, which for those of you who don't know they have a building on the circuit section not too far from the finish line. Carlos said no problem setting up and he'll leave a ladder out for us if we want it. He also said we could park at the building, but they are supposdly shutting the road down at 8 am, if anybody wants to get up early and park a car that would be great. I'm going to try to park my Jeep there.
I propose we meet for lunch again at Smoky Bones then we can head over to the "Honda" building and setup, it was pretty cool last year, the riders come around 5 or 6 times which should give you quite a few opportunities to get some good shots.
I'm also planning on heading up to Brasstown first thing Sat morning if anybody would like to join me just let me know.
