Rats, just found this thread. I am Atlanta based and think this is great. I love landscape and city shots but will point my camera at just about anything. Looking forward to getting together with some of you if possible.
Who knew? I've been lurking on FM for a year and finally decided to wander outside of the sports/Nikon threads. Must say, I'm pretty stoked to find some neighbors
I'm just a dad with camera. Five years ago I did not give one whit about photography...then my kids started playing soccer. Now I've swallowed the photography thing hook, line, sinker and then some. Haven't had this much fun with anything since...
My thing is youth sports and performing arts. For me, it's not so much about recording the event, but catching the faces of a child doing what they love.
When my youngest daughter was 8, her soccer team was in the championship playoff that ended in a tie. To break the tie, they went for a shootout and my daughter was goalie. First shootout - still a tie. Second shootout - we won. This was before I started taking pictures, but another parent caught some wonderful shots of my daughter and I will be forever grateful. I hope I can return the favor for some other parents.
Anyhoo, I haven't read all 180+ pages of the thread , but if there are opportunities for meet/greet/shoot, I'd love to meet everyone. I look forward to sharing experiences and swapping ideas.

How much mail can that thing sort?
Not as much as we'd like. OCR is not that good. Must have a Canon inside
Actually it does have a camera inside the big black box. It photographs the envelope as it goes past and then uses OCR to read the label. The thing in the center of the fisheye pic is the label printer.
I don't know what the rated capacity is.
JonU: Job is going OK. I'm learning Python now (translating AWK into Python). It just never stops... I also write code (Java) to talk to the machine above and JavaScript to run the other lines that process items that can not go through those machines.
Hard to believe I've been there for almost a year.
Hey everyone! I haven't been around in some time, I've been busy job hunting then working too many jobs!
My full time position was reduced to 20 hours a week as of Jan. 1 so I began looking for another full time gig. I've got another part time one in my field (GIS) so I work 8-12 at one office then 12:30 to 6:30pm at the other one! Long days. Oh and on the weekends, I have been working at this biotech company that I used to work for full time! I took a weekend position with them when I first lost the full time job, they were nice enough to let me come back and the pay I was making when I left but then I got this other part time GIS job faster than I expected to so I've been trying to work all three jobs, ack! It's not going to last long but I had to make some cash to catch up on things. So for the last two weeks I have worked 80 hours, it's been brutal. And the worst of the lab job is that it's graveyard shift. So check out this horrid schedule -
Friday get up at 6am and then work in the GIS jobs til 6pm-ish (I get to leave a little earlier on Fridays) then go home, have dinner, tuck kids in and work 8pm-6:30 overnight at the lab. Work 8pm-6:30am again Saturday night and then again Sunday night. But on Sundays I get out earlier, no later than 5am but sooner if it's not busy. Go home, take a shower then off to work at the GIS jobs. So that's 2 days of being awake for about 25 hours straight! I used to be able to do this without too much pain but man I'm old now! Like I said, it won't last long. I'll have to quit this weekend job soon but I felt that I should work with them as long as I can since they did me a huge favor and they need me there right now.
So long story short, I haven't taken any pictures since like Christmas!!!!
I have got to tell you, I think I have bought my last camera body. I can see myself using it for a very, very long time. There has not been a single instance where I have felt let down by the camera, only by my own limitations.
