Dave, this is a simple tutorial on flash - designed to get you thinking about what is going on. It was written for Nikon, but applies to any camera/flash.
TTL-BL = Balanced (fill) flash. TTL is regular flash. Canon's terminology will be different but should be close enough.
FP is the high speed flash (shutter speed greater than sync speed). Not discussed, but mentioned.

Hi guys.
I had a chance to shoot some soccer yesterday. I posted them in the Sports Corner, but I would love it if you guys would take a look and critique... https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/688612
Hi guys. Thanks for the comments on the soccer shots!
I agree with Jon Uhler who says we all need to get together and shoot soon. Let's pick a date and a place...I'm not good with Atlanta, but I know there is plenty there to do. The zoo is always fun (especially for those like Uhler who have new long glass to play with) and Callaway Gardens is fun for macros (butterfly house) and Birds of Prey.
Let's throw out some more ideas and see what everyone can get excited about! Also, throw out some dates...
Alright folks, I have implemented everything that I've learned to date in this photo which i took tonight at around 7 pm. I think its the best portrait i have ever taken and there is absolutely NO PP done to it yet. I used a canon flash with it as well
Dave, i'm getting a bit blurry eyed right now but I think that shot looks really nice. It seems to be blended really well with the ambient and has just a hint of sparkle in her eyes.
Probably the only thing I would like to see different is the size of her pupils. I don't like overly large or overly small pupils in any shot. You probably could have held one of those 5-1 relflectors in front of her face to let her eyes open just a bit.
Hopefully grand master flash ( T ! ) will chime in later and tell me what I did wrong in her opinion

Playing around with the 70-200 and the 1.4 TC on the way home from work....
Jon, I hate you. You make me feel so inadequate (well, photographically that is). Good eye.
I just bought my better half a starter DSLR on fleaBay. Put a 50mm lens on it and told her to zoom with her feet. I'm hoping she will get 'some' use out of it and who knows, maybe the bug will bite. After a while, I'll let her play with the 18-200 VR. I wanted her to start with something light and simple.
'Wifey' enjoyed the APG Roswell tour we did, so I think she would be up for something similar. Any venues in mind ?
I'm about to go fly some foamies - I saw one flying this morning while I was playing tennis. Went to talk to the pilot and he says he's out there most Sunday mornings. I figured I'd fix up the two old ones I've got and give it a go. Did some fixing this morning and the TX is charging right now. I havn't flown for years - should be interesting. I hope I don't bust anything.
Hoope you all had a great weekend, fall/ winter is around the corner which means crisp clean air in all our photos I'm excited
anyway I have a question for you canon folks
If i were looking to get a portrait lens do any of you have experience with the 85 1.2 vs 1.8 ? what do you think of the two ?

Eh...it is like riding a bike....
Apparently not. I dorked in one of the foamies on flight #1 and bust it up quite bad. The other I flew for a while and it was very uncomfortable. Some kids came over and were asking a bunch of questions. One of them asked what "Fuggen Torken" was. I pretended I didn't hear... gotta stop putting that on my planes
