Nice JU. The 3rd shot looks like she is trying hard not to bust out laughing. I'm probably going to be in the minority on this but I like #2 the best. I would like to see if you could leave the background and dress alone and warm her skin up just a tad...

Do you have any of her right shoulder? I'm just curious what the tat says

Thanks Mark. I don't see the laughing part...although this girl had tons of spark....so much fun to shoot.

How is this?

What amazing eyes she has. I love #1 and #3. I like #2 without the slelective coloring, and #3 I might have liked better in color. #1 is #1 with me, I love the color and how her eyes in that one just POP! In #1, no matter what I look at, I am always drawn back to those eyes. Great shoot Jon!

Thanks Dawn....

There is no selective coloring in #2. It is called a "bleaching" action in ps.

#1 is my fav too

I like it! It even brought back a little detail in the bodice area of the dress.

I agree with DD she has great eyes...

I finally remembered to look around in cyberspace and found this

Hopefully there will be some fun folks in there. I think I will try to make the meeting next Tuesday night. I need to remember to go back out to Flickr and see what is happening on the Strobist site for the Nashville area

Oh I have seen that action in one of my Adobe ad-on color efex, but I have never used it, now I see why. I love color and constrast. Love the second more with full color. Good job, she should be very happy with these!

Good job Jon! You're fortunate to have a good model to shoot too! Is this a Mayhem or someone who volunteered?

1,3 & 4 are my favs - but if i were to critique at all - the shadows are missing. All look like direct soft front light or direct harsh front light - but no back light, hair light or key. While all these shots are fantastic - they suffer a little from the drama additional lighting can do.

Now if the goal was a one light project - you did it perfectly. Since we don't know the goals and what you saw in your mind and whether you got there - is up to you and only you know.

I know I like 'em! - you are really gettin good at this... we ARE gonna have to break your fingers - just to slow you down!

----
BTW - Shuana will be representing her Mrs. Norcross title in the Mrs. Georgia America Pageant 2008 on June 22nd. We have the releases and the right to use her picture, but if she were to win, i just got info from the Mrs. America people that there has to be a license with them to use the title "Mrs. Georgia" in your advertising. Just so you know. I just found out myself - though I sorta expected something like this - what with all the legal crap that goes on in business these days. I'll be attending the Pageant - don't know if anyone else is interested - but I'll send the info in PM if you are. Let me know.
-------
spent the morning trying to shoot a 2 year old and a nanny in front of a black background, using two lights and a flashlight... neither the nanny or the 2 year old took direction well -I'm sure this is going to be a tough assignment when its over. The kid will be 50 before i get it right!
-------------
spent the afternoon at the att Classic. shooting under a great big softbox all day. I kept thinking it would sure be a good idea to use the expodisc... but it was too small for the 300 and that was the only lens I brought with me.
------------------
I've just about had it with photos for a while...

good thing about the type of photos i shoot... i don't have to worry about whether the model has a butterfly or not...

I had a friend who worked for KG&E as a nuke engineer... his favorite thing to say was "solar is alright... but nukes do it all night!"
http://jonberryphoto.smugmug.com/photos/295565570_imP5f-L.jpg

yeah - i know its a little soft... but it was hand held from a platform that was moving around 350mph using a 200mm at 1/250 ƒ8.

So here is a shot of our home town...
http://jonberryphoto.smugmug.com/photos/295564813_CWpfT-L.jpg

Couldn't do much with camera angle or lighting... but for an oddity - it sorta works.

Me and Lori would be up for this. We have always wanted to go.

As far as Hilton Head...I went for years and never had any of the issues you mentioned. It is an awesome place. We had a condo there....

I spent a lot of time in and around Jupiter Fla as well....cool place.

Me too Jon. I loved Hilton and didn't have any issues. We just went to Jeykll for spring break and loved it as well. It isn't exactly a hoppin' place but I liked the quiet and no crowds. There is an awesome driftwood beach at the north end of the island that is so great for photos.

Thanks for the comments guys.

JB - Most of the shots were available light. I did break the flash out later and hand held it like I did at the strobist thingy. I am real happy with out they came out.

Mark - If I remember right there is a huge strobist following in Nashville. I am sure they will hook you up.

It appears I have a LOT of catch-up reading to do.

I'm back home after a great 10 days in Scotland, Wales, and then England with the Georgia Tech Glee Club, an all-male choir. Flew into Manchester, picked up our rented coach, and drove to Edinburgh. After an evening in Edinburgh (ate dinner on the royal mile, saw the castle) we drove up to Dornoch. Go google it - it's NORTH Scotland. Dornoch is home of the Royal Dornoch golf course (http://royaldornoch.com/) - and I got to play on the Championship course. It was absolutely amazing. Perfect weather - sunny and not that windy. We performed that night in the Dornoch Cathedral, built in 1222, and stayed a couple nights in a youth hostel located about 30 minutes away in an old Castle.

We spent a night in Stirling, a night in Glasgow, performed at a couple more churches there and toured some more castles. Then it was down to a small village in north Wales tucked away in a mountainous area, a small town in south west England, and then 2 days in London before catching a coach up towards Manchester and spending the last night in a village known as the burial place for Little John (of Robin Hood fame).

Amazing trip, got some good pictures and I'm tired as heck. In addition, I have an interview at 1:30 so I'm getting ready for that. Hopefully I'll get some pictures up soon.

How's everyone been? Pizza and beer soon?

Hmmm... Maybe we could get a shoot off going:

Strobe-off: Atlanta v Nashville

Maybe we could get David Hobby to adjudicate...

JB, I spent a lot of the last 7-8 years running in and out of plants like that. From the air it looks like a fossil plant. Where is it?

So they came out as you envisioned, planned and executed? (just giving you a hard time - like that other thread a while back - somebody's got to do it!)

The light is very soft and compliments her features well on the first few. The harsh look is almost metallic so it doesn't work for me and tats always detract... as do tan lines, moles and blemishes. I've never understood why anyone wants to make themselves uglier by getting tats. It just doesn't make any sense to me - plus the risk of Hep C. Sorry - that's just me. Your model is a lovely girl who ruined what looks like a perfectly beautiful body. But that has nothing to do with your photography - you did with it what you could.

Figured I'd post this picture (not mine) of the course. I was too busy golfing to haul around a camera.

Nice shot Colin... but how did you score? That place looks beautiful.

As to pizza and beer - wasn't there something tentative for this weekend? I can't remember... old age/brain fart thing.

Nice shot Colin!

I have no issues with tats. I personally wouldn't get one...but have no issues with them. I think they look nice on her.

Some like Nikons too - there is no excuse for taste!

Like Jimmy Buffett says - they are "a permanent reminder of a temporary feeling" ... and "there's no dumb ass vaccine".
