Change out for a smaller camera like an A6000 series with kit lens. Fits in a coat pocket. Or maybe a small fanny pack.
I just don't think an A7R with a 35/1.4 is medium, that seems fairly large and any bag will be noticable. But go down to APS-C and viola, much smaller.

Yes, something like the 6500 with the 16-70 Zeiss lens makes a very nice take-it-with-you-all-day kit. This is what I used for a lot of my traveling, along with a 10-18 and the 24 1.8. It is pretty much ideal in terms of wight, size, and what you can photograph. But it does not have the image quality that one gets with full frame. For a lot of images it no doubt doesn't matter, but often enough it does.
What we need are processing algorithms that turn aps-c into full frame!

I like my Pacsafe Camsafe V8 anti-theft camera shoulder bag. The double zipper at the top is a little wonky, but I think it makes it more secure.
I was trying to remember the name "PacSafe" to see if they had anything for a camera smaller than their sling bag. I like the sling bag and have used it for camera gear when traveling. But it is a little large for what I want here.
The one thing about the PacSafe bags is that because of their emphasis on security it may not be as easy as other bags to get your camera out of quickly. I like the double zipper because it give you a wide opening once it is pulled, but it is not as easy as a flap with a zipper underneath where you can leave it unzipped but flap covered when you want to be ready to shoot.
I may take a look at this bag.
At what point do Amazon, B&H, or Adorama cut off your account because you have returned too many bags? But how else to buy something like a bag online?

My minimalist bag is the Lowepro Adventura 140, which is bigger than you want, but the 120 would be about right. Lowepro Adventura 120. It's a bit smaller than the ILC 100 but not as limiting as the ILC 50. If you don't like the looks of the orange racing stripes, the older version (eBay link) is a bit more nondescript but lacks the new version's composite bottom.
Thank you! the older version looks much better for my purposes than the new version, and the price from Adorama at ebay is only $10! Can't miss. I'll use it as a lens case if I don't like it when it arrives.

BAG HELP FOR YOU HERE:
even if you're a bagoholic, that is ok. the key is having a diverse collection.
1. get a domke f5xb for your smallest bag. b/c you can put an a7riii in it, and one lens, and be done. OR you can have the camera and two lenses (25/28/35/50/85 not 1.4), one of them being mounted! it is not worth getting the f5xa b/c a. it's not that much smaller. b. it's not as versatile. meaning, sure you can fit a a7r and 28 in the a size bag. but you can't fit an a7r and a 85GM. the b, you can fit either setup, or the sony and two lenses! and again, it's not much bigger. c. the a version just looks too square/goofy. the b is a better choice, my friend.
2. get this domke f3x for your next size up bag.
even if you know how this bag works, it's worth it!
this has pockets on the end for a water bottle and/or flash/personal items
&feature=youtu.be
3. get a backpack for your next size up
watch this review!!
even if you don't like this exact bag, you may get inspiration from it. this is a SMALL backpack, but it fits all your gear
this bag is not perfect. but it just flat out works. it's tiny, it has good padding. it is under 2lbs, so it's so light, you don't miss the waist/sternum strap. most camera backpacks are 4lbs.
4. my wild card bag is the sling from peak design
I don't have a video with mirrorless stuff, just big stuff
this bag has a tripod holder, so while it's the same size as the domke f3x, it's different.
no water bottle pouch or capability. but the tripod holder comes in handy, when I want it.
I really don't like how the mirrorless stuff fits in this bag.
the key is having different bags that all do different things
if you have the perfect bag, for any occasion, you won't mind carrying your gear with you.
- edit to add:
1. ona bowery
my wife and I had this bag for a while
- I think it's a little "too cute" for a guy - to be honest
- it has the one center latch, and therefore, if there are a few things in it, I don't think the flap does a good enough job. a lens could sneak out of the corners b/c of the center latch.
- the domke f5xb is the same size and secures better

Anytime and I prefer the old style as well. It's more discrete.

Awesome post! And great bagholic philosophy. I'm undecided about the vinta s backpack and I already have a think tank essentials backpack that I mostly use to get stuff to the hotel overseas while traveling. But I am looking seriously at your other recommendations! Thank you!

Check out the Thinktank Suburban Disguise 30. I wear it sling style. What I like about this bag is that it opens away from you making it easier to get to your lenses. With small mirrorless lenses, I can fit A7 series camera and 4-5 lenses.
The Thinktank Turnstyle 10 is an even smaller bag that can hold camera and 2-3 lenses. I can just fit my A7 series with 24-70/2.8 GM (without hood) and 12-24.
Lastly, Peak Design's sling will hold camera and 4-5 small lenses and three larger ones.

Well, the first step toward being cured is admitting that you have a problem.
And, the second step is boxing up the ones you didn't use this year and sending them to me.

And they take up space and create clutter. I gave five camera bags from my DSLR era away today, to Big Bothers as part of a winter clothing donation.

I really like the ThinkTank Mirrorless Mover series for something small and lightweight. I have the 10, 20, and 25i.
Body: a7R2
MM10: a7R2 with FE 28 2.0 (no longer have the lens)
MM20: a7R2 with either the 16-35GM, 50 1.4, or 90 2.8 macro.
MM25i: a7R2 with any of the three above, plus RX100V. If I had a smaller lens, like the 28mm or 35mm 2.8, it could fit where the RX100 sits.
For carrying around more of the large lenses at the same time I have a Peak Design 13L messenger. That'll fit the body with one lens attached and two more lenses.

Does the A7r2 with 16-35GM fit in the MM20 with the hood in shooting position? Also, I assume you would need to lay it sideways since the bag height is only 5.3”?

In the MM20, no, it will not fit with the hood in the shooting position. It does lay sideways, and that actually makes it a nice and balanced feel in the bag. I lay it in with the grip side up; easy to grab and go.
Not that you asked, but I can see if the MM25i will fit the a7R2/16-35GM with hood in shooting position.

Thanks for the info. I’d be interested regarding the fit in the 25i as well.

I misspoke on the MM20 and 16-35GM with hood in shooting position. It does fit, and it's only snug. No dividers can be used, but you'd not be dividing it from anything, anyway.
In the MM25i, the same combo fits and with one of the thin dividers you'd have a second compartment for something like the 28mm f/2 or 55mm f/1.8.
