p.1 #1 · What is the right small bag to take only your camera EVERYWHERE?
I have been thinking about trying to carry my camera with me much more often than I now do. Part of the problem is the bag that one needs to have with one while also carrying and doing other things.
What is the ideal bag to carry a Sony A7xxx series camera with a medium lens mounted around with one all the time?

That does seem like a nice bag. i wish it were a little smaller--12 inches long is enough to get n your way a lot. But it looks sleek and accessible.
Can it be worn as a shoulder bag with the strap across the chest, or only with the bag on your back?
And like all Peak stuff, it is a bit pricey!
Look at the 5 liter. It will likely meet your need perfectly.

Ona Bowery might be a good fit, depending on your definition of "medium" lens.
I personally just use my battered Billingham Hadley Pro, even when just carrying the camera with one lens. Trying to avoid being a bagaholic but I fear it is inevitable. Billingham makes some smaller bags that might serve your purpose.

Tenba DNA 8 is my favorite but I actually carry the 85mm GM (or 135mm 1.4 art) and the 35mm 1.4 L ii with my A7Riii in it, plus has other pockets for batteries and more. Really useful little bag.

I only have the 10 liter, so I don't know for sure. The 10l is like the Peak Design Everyday Messenger bag in that it has some structural rigidity to it, so I expect the 5l does, too. That rigity make the 10l bag ride well -- make that *exceptionally well* -- across the back. You can almost go jogging with it. Correspondingly, while you can wear it as a shoulder bag at your side, it tends to pivot in an oscillating fashion about the hip bone instead of conforming to the body like a soft bag might. So, yeah, you can carry the 10l/messenger bag at the hip, but it's not the best way. The 5l probably has the same rigidity, but nevertheless it may not wobble around the hip like the others because it's so much smaller -- the shoulder straps may just hang straight down to the ends of the bag instead of outward and down. That might make the 5l more stable as a hip bag (or less stable on the back). I'm not sure that any bag small enough for just one camera only will be big enough to conform to the body very well. Hopefully, a 5l owner will chime in.

I use an A7rII with a 16-35/4 and a 55/1.8. The most minimalistic bag that will fit, that I like using, is a Think Tank Mirrorless Mover 20i. It is snug but not unpleasant to work out of. A Mirrorless Mover 30i will accommodate the addition of a 35/2.8, filter wallet, and some odds and ends.
In either case, the Tom Bihn Absolute Strap is a nice addition.
For your stated plans, the MM 20i would work well.

I've recommended the ThinkTank Retrospective the last few times this has come up. It's a sturdy and unobtrusive bag that holds a ton of stuff.
I love mine for my A6300 and a few lenses or A7R2 and a zoom or couple small primes.

"everywhere" eh? There's only one combo that I think I could bring everywhere, ILC-50 by lowepro, barely fits A7x + FE 35 f2.8. Anything bigger, I'de consider medium/large size.

I love the Retrospective bags, but I am looking to go as small as possible--a bag that would hold only the camera with a medium lens--maybe up to a 35 1.4 or a 50 1.4--but nothing else. The idea is to make it easy to have a camera with me, not when i am going out to shoot but just when I am going out to dinner, etc.

I have a F-5XA, I can fit my A7 with a pair of lenses. The 55/1.8 and 85/1.8 will both fit, lens hood reversed, if you're lenses are much bigger than that then you'll want something larger. I use my Thinktank Retrospective, that Rdeloe posted, far more though. It will easily carry a several lenses and I can squeeze in a 70-200/4.

This one is very close and i s definitely along the lines of what i am looking for. I may order one to look at. It may be just a touch small--another inch or two wider, but not as big as the ILC 100. Thanks for the tip.

5L owner here. I can not compare it to the -0L as I use Lowepro bags when I want to bring more gear but I grabbed the 5L a few weeks ago for OP exact reason. Lately I found myself not grabbing my camera bag when I want to just bring my camera with one lens attached and maybe one extra because I didn’t want to lug my whole bag.
The 5L so far is great. It has structural rigidity, is compact and will fit camera with one lens and a few accessories or camera with one Two lenses if they are smaller lenses. When I have my 50 1.4 on I am hard pressed to fit another lens unless it is one of my CV’s or Loxia. Always extra room for a few batteries and as cards also. Great product but a little pricey.

Yes, it is pricey, but if it works for the purpose.
It does sound to me like it is just the size I am looking for. Can it be worn as a shoulder bag with bag at your hip, or does t have to be worn ont he back to be comfortable?

I use the Peak Design Sling 10 now as on a good day I can get 5 lenses and body in it and it’s fits my back really nicely. Everything I use the Peak Design backpack 20. Than I got zillion I need to sell. Also for PR gigs I use the Tenba Copper 13 slim.

It can be worn on the back, the hip, or even as a Fanny pack.....no joke watch their video on their website, although I don’t recommend that one
On the back though you really do not feel it much as it is pretty light with only camera and one to two lenses.
As a bonus for anyone with a drone, the Mavic and Spark with controller and batteries also fit perfectly in the 5L!
