Today i went to get a LCD cover fixed on my R3 and EM1.2. The guy told me the Sony already had one, but Olympus didn’t. He said I won’t enjoy the monitor view if i put another cover on it. I told him not to put.
This tells me its a Sony thing.

I got my 55 today and its unbelievably sharp wide open. Never experienced this kind of sharpness so effortlessly before. Mirrorless really rocks at bringing out the best in lenses.

You are welcome and btw, Lim's told me they are doing an A7R3 specific version coming out on January for people that one a more perfect fit so I am just going to use the cheapo I got until that one comes out.

I just received the LIM's case and really like it. The quality is very high and the Arca Swiss plate is very solid. It fits perfectly, so I wonder what they mean by a better fit (?). I'll order the new one in January for the A7RIII, however, and mount this one on my A9.

And it's sharp to the very edges.

Awesome. Can you post some photos specially around the grip area to show the fit?
Not sure myself but here is what I was told on the email

"I have to inform you that we are making new case of A7R3.
It is under manufacturing and launch it in January.

A9 case is almost the same as A7R3 and some of our customers are satisfied with A9 case for their A7R3.
However, there are some customer who wants better fit so, we are making new one.

Hope you know this point and decide the case. ^^

Thanks and best regards,
Janna. "

BTW, can you confirm that NFC is working fine for you with the case please?

I believe he was referring to a Bulb 'timer', which the 5D4 has and the A7R3 unfortunately does not.

Just had time to charge up the battery last night and then with that charged, I did a quick customization of the buttons to match what I'm used to with my A7RII.

Initial Observations w/o Having Taken A Single Image:
- Sony charged the battery from 2% to full within 2 hours. Not bad at all.
- Really like the new menu organization - Sony seemed to have listened
- Feels much more responsive in all aspects
- EVF looks great
- I thought I'd have issues with the new button layout, but I quickly adapted
- Slightly bigger/deeper grip feels good
- EVF deactivation with the screen flipped out is fantastic little enhancement. This drove me nuts at times with the A7R and A7RII
- C3 button on the left hand side - great!!

What I don't like:
- Card slot door feels flimsy and looks like I may accidentally open it sometime in the future. My A7RII SD card slot door feels more substantial and won't ever accidentally open
- EC dial still too easy to accidentally move

I'll get it out today for a quick shoot.

- J

EDIT: Just ran outside and took a few snaps of the mountains
- Shutter is sublime - much much quieter and less shock-y than the A7RII
- Time to take a picture, write to the SD card, hit the review button and chimp to 100% is vastly faster - now it's like my D800 - the camera is faster than me, which is the way it should be!
- IBIS for long tele lenses appears to be no better than the A7RII, at least by how the image is jumping around still in the viewfinder while trying to nail the focus.

Just need ACR to update to handle the RAW files.

There are many wireless remotes on ebay.in....they all list entire nex/6000 type cameras plus all a99 type cameras but no a7 series. I understand it will work.

I just wish they had removed EC dial and put an a9 type drive dial instead. Who needs EC dial? And a 10 fps camera should have a drive dial.

What?! I use exposure compensation all the time. The dedicated dial and ability to see EC at a glance is a huge bonus over my old Canon. Who needs a drive dial?

After shooting with my A7RIII for a few days, I’m finding old muscle memory dies hard. For example I’ve found myself a few times now moving the focus point the old way with the wheel.

Perhaps the littlest feature with the biggest benefit so far is the fact it remembers your horizontal and vertical focus point.

Battery life is a complete non-issue now. I’m getting 2 days to a battery whereas before I always carried a spare and often needed it.

Focus performance with the 100-400 is fantastic. Couldn’t be happier.

I’m finding the TAP almost unusable in AF-C as it’s hunting and having a lot of trouble locking focus but it could be my shooting conditions here... low light lounge portraits with not a lot of contrast. AF-S seems better with TAP but I need to get on that thread and dive into this a bit deeper.

This forum needs a sticky with performance pointers of various non-native lenses with mainstream adapters. The information is scattered all over and difficult to find. The original Metabones thread has died and since then so many capable adapters have surfaced.
I am particularly interested in 135L, 200/2.8 L (extremely cheap now thanks to 70-200s and lack of IS. Another bargain is 70-200 L (non-IS). 40 pancake. 35/2 IS, which is not mentioned anywhere despite a constant search and requests for a 35/2 from Sony.

- their performance vis a vis native cameras
- eye af
- does IBIS work effectively?
- latest FW updates and the improvements

I think Fred or any other experienced member can start that thread.

Right there with you. I use EC all the time. While we are wishing - I wish it was just a bit easier to spin. Also, get rid of the lock on the mode dial. If they made it as hard to spin as the EC dial no lock would be needed.

I switched to the iPhone, so I no longer use NFC, which always worked great with Sony cameras. Connectivity with the iPhones/iPads is lousy since NFC cannot be used. I doubt that NFC is impacted by the LIM's case.

In my work, in the the past with cameras that didn't have the lock, it would often get turned and I would then notice I had been shooting in a mode that I did not want. So easy to push down and set. That is my experience.

Wow that looks fantastic and the fit seems perfectly tight and neat from your photos so really not sure what they can improve.
My cheapo ones is decent in most areas but has one that is a BIG horrible one which is the one this photo.
I assume yours is perfect there too?

Can someone confirm for me eye af no longer requires a separate function from AF. I always wondered why it's not always on with face detect. I can't think of a use case where I don't want eye af when it finds a face =). Not a fan of needed a separate button to engage it. Also is this the case with the A9 as well, autofocus on automatically engages eye af if a face is found?
