I guess I should have not defended UPS before.
There seems to be no way to talk to a human or even Chat. Clicking on Chat just gets you to the same menu that supplies computer generated FAQs. Calling just gets you a computer that walks you through essentially the same FAQs.
The only thing I can find out is that it left the distribution facility in KY at 11:20AM. From past experience, when it does not get to the final sorting facility and on a truck first thing in the morning, it ends up being delivered the next day. Now, I have to figure out how to refuse it, since there is no one here to accept it.
I have pretty much decided to just take my Olympus camera and lenses. Might be easier to meet the internal Costa Rica flight requirements of 10 lb or less carry-on, too.
Boy, Sony better hope I take terrible photos with the Olympus equipment! (I'll hide any good pictures we might take with the RX10).
I will wait until a bit later, but I can't keep putting off final packing.

I believe they will require signature for a $3k camera, so if no one at home to receive the package, they will send it back to sender after failing 3 attempts to deliver. However, it would be really bad if they leave the package at the door for days or weeks!

The UPS guys have the code to enter our condo building and leave the package, so that would not be a big concern, since it is pretty secure here. But, I am pretty sure they will return it, as you said, and all of this crazy roller coaster will be for nothing!
I will at least let Amex know that they charged my card on Sunday and did not ship it until Wednesday, with false promises of shipping it on Monday and Tuesday. I don't think Amex likes that, since I have always heard that they are not allowed to charge the card until they ship the product.

Would have been a lot smoother and a lot less stressful for their customers (us AND their dealers), if they just let the dealers ship when they wanted to!

In my experience UPS will hold the package at their center for five days after the third attempt. I believe Fedex does the same thing.

I feel for you Guy. Nothing is worse than leaving for a job and waiting for a highly desired piece of gear like this! Been there done that, many times.... did you try Precision Camera in Austin Tx. I bought my A7R2 there. They are a big Sony Pro dealer.

The last item I ordered from BH came with free expedited shipping. BH shipped it UPS Ground (which takes over a week to get to the West Coast) and it was left on my neighbor's porch one block over with a different address. When I saw the package was delivered, but never received a package, I followed up with UPS and BH but never received a reply from either. My neighbor was nice enough to bring it over to me three days later even though he didn't know me. It was sitting on his porch the whole time. He figured UPS would realize they made a mistake and come pick it up. Obviously, they never did.
I never did like UPS, unfortunately BH is now also in that group.

Yeah big ticket items from UPS I'll have held at a hub and pick it up myself. Fedex, I'll send to a pack n ship center.

Well Guy, I'm in much the same boat as you. My camera did ship but UPS has it listed for 2nd day air to arrive end of day Monday. I guess they don't work Saturdays. I paid for 1 day saver but no one can seem to change it at B&H or UPS. Guess what, I leave Monday morning for the balance of the week so I'm screwed.
