The 50 1.5 C Sonar serves wonderfully as a portrait lens as it has significant field curvature wide open that gives it an ethereal quality. At narrower apertures it flattens and is as good as the best 50mm lenses with edge to edge sharpness.
I do love this lens, but I’ve tried a couple of them on Sony and they have been consistent in never gettting sharp edge to edge stopped down at infinity - very different from the best 50 mm lenses. And at close distances, never getting really all that sharp even in the centre (though usable)
I’m not dissing it: I have one and I love the look it gives. But in case anyone thinks that it’d be a good do it all lens with lovely Sonnar rendering for portraits and a good stopped down landscape lens, it would not be my recommendation to get one if you require that.
Of course it’s not bad stopped down: when the original design came out it was thought of as a character lens wide open and a good generalist stopped down (the original design, not the C-Sonnar reboot). But design has moved on, and most of us use it for a lovely vintage look, with much more decent central sharpness (but not modern 50 sharpness or even good modern zoom sharpness) than some classics.

How do you like your 65mm apo lens?
I have a Zeiss 35mm 1.4 ZM and Zeiss 50mm 1.5 ZM C Sonnar lens with techart adapters on my 2 A7r III bodies. I also carry a Loxia 21 mm lens as a 3rd.
I plan to add a 4th lens for a portrait and am conflicted between the 100 STF lens and an apo lanthar as a general purpose lens.
This would be my small size camera kit.

I have heard wonderful thinks about the APO lanthar not only as a macro but as a general lens. But concerns are that the focal length is close to the 50 mm lens.
I do have other lenses like the Sony sal 135 1.8 which I love and the the canon 85 1.2 II for portrait purposes.
So I don’t know if I should just save the money and call it a day.

My small lens kit consists of the CV15/4.5, Loxia 21, Zeiss Distagon 35/1.4ZM, CV Nokton 50/1.5 and the CV65/2. I also have the Zeiss 85/4 Tele-Tessar. I love every single one of these lenses for their character. The CV65/2 is simply an awesome lens in so many respects. I don't shoot many macros but I love this lens. Sharp, color, contrast, sunstars . . . it just does it all, IMO.

I guess Fedx is having it’s moments. The good news it’s here in Phoenix the bad news plane was late there doing the big sort at airport. Probably not going to deliver but I’m hoping to make it at the distribution center and I can actually go get there before close at 7pm. I have to say this was the worst timing for release by Sony. It should have been before Thanksgiving st least get some units out . Anyway it’s put a lot of folks out with shipping issues. Not only that I spent around 65 dollars for overnight shipping and many others have as well and no one is going to get a refund on overnight costs.
I totally understand them getting slammed. But still

Guy, you still haven't got your a7rm3? UPS failed to deliver mine overnight so Bestbuy refunded me overnight shipping cost even I didn't request. I got mine past Monday instead of last Friday. Every retailer should do this. I hope you get yours soon.

Thanks I’m going to head down to Fedx distribution center here in a bit. Tracking is not keeping up to date it’s been 3.5 hours at airport sorting so should make it there before they close. I hope it’s there. The good news it’s in Phoenix

I would make a call before you head there to save a trip if it's not available to pick up yet. When UPS didn't deliver mine on that Friday, I run to their customer center to pick up but they told me my pkg was not available in their center yet. I wasted 1.5 hr of driving both ways. They told me "destination scan" doesn't meant it's available for pick- up. I ended up let them deliver mine by truck on following Monday. I hate when estimated delivery day is Friday!

Yeah I found out that UPS will use destination estimates and post that information vs real time. I learned the hard way too. The only real time scan is when you receive the item.

Well as suspected still at airport in big container with 2000 other packages. But will be at distribution in morning. I put it on hold for pickup. But for others Fedx will be delivering regardless on Saturday even if weekday deliveries.

Good for you and congrats
Thanks Guy. It was like pulling teeth to get info from Amazon about order status and never did get any estimated delivery date. Just this sudden notice that it shipped yesterday. Sure hope that your camera gets to you soon and more importanly I hope that you recover quickly from your shingles outbreak.

Is it just me or does the A7rIII hunt consistently in low light?
So let me clarify. The camera will ALWAYS pass the mark and go back to it.. For instance if I say set the lens to minimum focusing distance it'll go all the way to infinity (past my say 4m point of focus) and then all the way back towards minimum but will finally stop on my mark. Normal behaviour in low light? The A9 doesn't do this... EVER.
Tried with the following: 85GM (which isn't stopped down while focusing), 16-35GM, 55FE before giving up.
