For the E mount
Voigtlander 40mm f/1.2 Nokton Aspherical
Sony FE Mount
Out of Stock until the Next Production run arrives towards the end of March
We continue to take orders for delivery at that time
Yep - just saw it 15-minutes ago. I finally decided to pull the trigger and then this
Oh well - It will help justify my decision if I still want it 1-month from now.

Yes, I looked all over for this lens as I wanted to take it with me to Amelia Island for the concours this week. Instead I'll be taking my 24-70GM, CV 65 APO and 100 STF (The STF is going to be experimental)
I am super interested to see your results from Amelia with the STF. I attend the Mille Miglia every year and I was thinking about buying the STF or 40 1.2...now I am thinking to buy both...
On another note, I'm still marveling at the size of this thing relative to what it is capable of. This is not meant to be any form of scientific size comparison but instead, just a quick idea of what I was working with previously.
Threw in the main 50s I use most often on the Sony. The 28 is in there since it is about the closest lens I have in dimension. The VM 40 (no hood) with the TAP is identical to the length of the 28/2. Although the front filter thread of the 28 is technically smaller (49mm), the overall thickness of the 28 is still greater than the VM. With the hoods on both lenses, the 28 then grows to be noticeably longer.
Lastly, I threw the Canon 35 II in there because it is what I was using before when I wanted a relatively normal FL wider than 50. Needless to say, a compact, high quality fast 40mm (personal sweet spot) is something I've been waiting for a company to make for a long time. Yes, I am aware of the older 40/1.4 but it wasn't quite what I wanted performance-wise (for those of you familiar with the lens).
SOOC, similar to what someone else mentioned, for super speedy subjects I'll use the pre-focus technique in anticipation of where the subject will be. I for sure have a fairly low keeper rate, but no different to with AF for me when things are moving this fast to ward me.

Awesome capture and impressively timed as well. Nicely done.
I too have employed the pre-focusing technique when shooting with other MF lenses like the Mitakon when possible. The problem I run into with the way that I shoot though is that I am seldom able to wait for something to unfold as I am usually in the thick of it (being the father of the kids and all). lol. Combine that with a wife that loathes when I choose to be the photographer first and dad second and you have pretty undesirable conditions for pre-focusing.
@Fred Miranda - awesome shot of El Capitan. Looks consistently great across the entire frame.

Hi Rob,
I usually do the same thing when shooting action with a MF lens. It also helps having a camera like the A73 where I shoot 8 frames per second while fine-tuning. One frame should be in focus!
I do wish Sony would implement something similar to the Fuji's for manual focus, where it wouldn't zoom the whole screen, just have a small section of the EVF in the bottom corner which shows the zoomed section. That way you get the whole view of the image and the zoomed section at the same time. Coupled with these excellent MF lens options it would be a killer MF system.

That qualifies for fast moving subject. Now can you track 5 more in focus.
Beautiful El Capitan photo. To my eye it's a little crunchy. In any case, it shows a very modern rendering, I think, which is helpful to know. Not sure whether it's mostly the lens or the processing, but it stands in contrast to the rendering I see in the closer/mid-range more wide open photos.
Grrr, all these great shots and the lens is sold out
Does anyone know any where in the US that actually has them.
I pinged Adorama and they replied that they don't know the ETA

Few more of the pup. I really like the colours coming from this lens.
Hi Rob
Love your images!
I photograph dogs very frequently and wanted to know how far you were away from your little guy for these 4 shots and any special processing!
Rob
I posted earlier the E version is out of stock but the VM is in stock at cameraquest which is the West coast distributor and Photo Village is the East coast.
They're not cropped in any way, so I wasn't that far from her. Happy to post a SOOC if there is one in particular that interests you, mainly just Lightroom stuff for whites, blacks, slight exposure adjustments etc. - and BW conversion of course for the black and whites
EDIT: A couple had a slight crop.

I have nothing left to say. I did not want to say anything in the first place but hey. Anyway sorry folks I would explain this all but trust me I think you all figured it out by now.
But I was planning on talking a small break anyway. I have some testing to do and I’m traveling to Seattle Friday. Going to try and shoot some if the city which I never done but the 40 and my new Loxia 85 will be in tow. Hopefully I can find some good images. Off topic but love to try that new CV 21 that was announced...Show more →
Where will you be when in Seattle? Come visit me over in West Seattle!
