Honestly with running kids none of these are great solutions as a good AF lens with eye AF would be the better call. These 40mm are a little more specialized and obviously have a really nice look to them. The TAP is nice don’t get me wrong but it’s kinda slow and not sure subject ovement helps it at all. If your a Leica user and a Sony user than the VM makes a lot of sense. As I said earlier a Sony user this just adds issue that would be tough to correct. The E version has a great look more wide open. It’s a tough call and I totally understand it. I’m kind of surprised we have not seen a updated version of the TAP

I would pay a premium to avoid the AF. Also to keep the size small.
Good point. This is actually part of the main list of reasons I love the lens. Perhaps what I mean to say is, if Voigt could optimize whatever they need to optically (for Sony) and keep the size of the VM version, a premium would be in order (and one that I'd gladly pay).
It be lovely I just don’t think it can be done without growing the optics to keep the FC down but I’m not a optical engineer either. The VM version is a nice size

It may be possible to attached a 50mm PCX to work on the 52mm filter thread without vignetting and I'm sure eventually someone will figure this out if that works.
If I were shooting Sony and Leica with only one lens, I would probably try this out.
It should be possible. I was able to use the lens from a 52mm Hoya diopter (once freed from its ring) on my ZM 18/4. I got a 58-52mm step down ring and used one of those retaining rings from a 52mm Amazon basics UV filter. I laid the lens right on top of the front element, with a tiny amount of gaffers tape on the front face of the metal plate around the front element of the ZM. I get no mechanical vignetting this way, but can't use filters without hard vignetting.
I don't have the 40/1.2 lens, but it looks like the front element does not protrude beyond that surround plate. I bet it would work with just a slim 52mm filter ring and retaining ring, sandwiching the front lens in place. Given the field of view, you might even be able to attach filters without vignetting. The main issue will be whether there are any shims or other mechanisms to allow infinity focus with a front lens in place. Otherwise the great hunt for a crappy adapter that allows infinity will ensue.
Guy, I hope you know you have a lot of respect from many many people here and that respect is earned both by your talent and your generous investing of time in both testing and providing advice. Don't let others get you down. You are highly valued here, so please stick around.
John, those look all great and personally I can't see any FC that would bother me or distract me. Photography should be about capturing the moment anyway and you got that right there.

On the issue of kids and MF, I have a five year old and he is the most common subject for my shooting and I shoot almost 100% MF. He is a very active kid too. I actually much prefer MF for shooting shots of him. The way I shoot is that I focus to where I expect him to be and then time the shot when he goes there. Often times this is actually a lot easier than you would think. I don't think I am especially skilled at MF or anything. I have found this method of shooting very enjoyable, and I actually hate trying to follow him in the viewfinder to maintain AF. Just annoys me to no end and sucks the joy out of shooting to try to keep up with him and I never feel like can do it. So, yes we all shoot differently and that is fine and I am glad we have options. If you want to see wonderful examples of kids shots with MF, check out some of Derek's (seboh's) shots. His have always been an inspiration to me and I think like me he pretty much shoots exclusively MF.
One of the things I really like about FM is the civility of discussion and high signal to noise ratio. I'd be sad to see this place become like DPR, which would mean I need to find a another forum home for photography. I've no idea how Fred and the community have maintained the quality of this place and I am thankful to the community for maintaining such standards.
My ask to Guy & Chez (and anyone else that has jumped in) is that if the back and forth is to continue, can you take it to PM and resolve your differences there? It is a private discussion with no relevance to other members of this forum. Or get back on track and give the high quality input to these discussions that you both typically contribute.
I have nothing left to say. I did not want to say anything in the first place but hey. Anyway sorry folks I would explain this all but trust me I think you all figured it out by now.
But I was planning on talking a small break anyway. I have some testing to do and I’m traveling to Seattle Friday. Going to try and shoot some if the city which I never done but the 40 and my new Loxia 85 will be in tow. Hopefully I can find some good images. Off topic but love to try that new CV 21 that was announced

As some of you may have noticed, I recently deleted many posts from this thread as an attempt to restore its integrity.
However, I'm taking notes, and will do whatever is necessary to maintain civility on our boards. This thread is a great resource for photographers looking to learn about this lens. I hope it will continue this way and as @darrellc wrote, personal grievances should be out of our forum and resolved via PM.
Thanks for your cooperation.

Yes, I looked all over for this lens as I wanted to take it with me to Amelia Island for the concours this week. Instead I'll be taking my 24-70GM, CV 65 APO and 100 STF (The STF is going to be experimental)
