Beautiful Shots all throughout this thread! I just picked a used one up about a week ago and am really enjoying it, while also trying to learn it.
The 1st is at 1.2, the 2nd and 3rd at 1.8.
Last time I photographed Willow, the new family member, at the end of December, she was 5 weeks old. She has matured and is smart and funny. Her preferred pastime is looking out the windows.
Hello, I'm new to this forum.
I've been reading this thread as I'm slowly falling in love with this lens and planning to buy it for me first FF camera, Sony A7II.
I'm not an expert in photography, just to confirm, was wondering how do you guys make all those beautiful pictures?
Do they come out from camera like that, does this amazing lens render them like that or do you always do some post processing, changing colors etc?
Do you use tripod for all those amazingly sharp photos?
I would love to buy this lens, but its expensive for me and don't want to buy only because I like all those photos here and believe that these lens can make a difference, if you know what I mean
Also, I'm looking to buy it second hand, but don't want to buy a poo in a basket
Where would you guys suggest to look for it? I'm in UK, so would prefer to buy it from closer shop than US for example.

I bought mine used from a FB group for $565 all included. I do a small amount of post processing, but I’ve only had mine a week, so I am not the best reference for this lovely lens. My point is it can be very affordable. I also saw some nice ones on EBay, from which I’d rather buy than sell, due to their fees.

I agree. It’s like the subject was planted into an existing photo. Lovely! chiron wrote:
Very remarkable separation of figures in that second shot. A very lovely and interesting image--the kind of pic you can look at for a while and that keeps your eye busy.

Thank you Phinix. I am glad you enjoy the images shown in this thread. There are indeed many great photos here.
I believe the most important thing is that you get to know your camera first, if it is new to you. Read some books specific to your model and set it up correctly. I personally would start with a kit lens first and get my "feet wet". In my opinion the key is to take a photo with the proper settings to begin with instead of correcting mistakes in PP.
All my shots are handheld.
BTW, I purchased my Nokton 40/1.2 used from a FM member here.
Bought mine brand new after reading this thread early on and was the best decision of my Sony life lol 😂 was using a Sony zeiss 35mm f1.4 for a bit before switching to this lens. This lens lives on my a7r ii 100% of the time. I love the colors so much that come out of this lens. I don’t edit any photos I take with this lens and post on here.

The Mississippi River at Clarkston, Mo. Pretty sharp at 1.2, although nothing spectacular about the image.
I did get some great bald eagle photos here with my Sigma 100-400 DG DN.
