I believe the most important thing is that you get to know your camera first, if it is new to you. Read some books specific to your model and set it up correctly. I personally would start with a kit lens first and get my "feet wet". In my opinion the key is to take a photo with the proper settings to begin with instead of correcting mistakes in PP
