Played around at F1.2. A7RIV. I can't believe the used price for this marvel is getting so cheap! I paid full price for mine. It's not going anywhere.

Thanks Fred, and happy New Year to you and all the forum members!

Very nice shots, Douglas and Lee.

I agree with Douglas that the prices have come down to an affordable range for lightly used pieces.

Thank you

I haven't followed the used prices for a while. When I wanted mine (Autumn 18) they were out of stock worldwide & I caught a local eBay used 40mm going for something like £850 with the RRP being around £750! I got cashback on mine, paid about £670 I think but it doesn't matter because I use it so much the cost is partly irrelevant.

Did never post here before, just reading. I am using the Voigtlander 40mm f1.2 LM with anamorphic lens Bolex Moller 16/32/1.5x. Works pretty well!

Nice! - How do you adapt it?

Curious how this lens does on the new A7riv sensor? Assuming it handles it. When I had it last it was only on the measly 42mp I miss the colors, and sunstars. I think I'm buying this one back.

It does exceptionally well in my opinion. Here's a quick example ...

I enjoy digging through old RAW files, looking for overlooked images. Here's one from Point Lobos, CA from a couple years ago.

Some winter B&Ws (A7II and CV 40/1.2 E).
Still can't believe that I got mine (used, but like new) for only ~USD670. The new CV 50/2 looks really good, but 40mm is a perfect focal length for me and I find its minor optical faults charming. I tend to get bored with perfect lenses.

I've resisted for quite some time, but ended up joining the fold. Here is hoping that the 40 1.2 can replace my Loxia 35 and 50: 21, 40, 85 makes for a nice doubling of FL's landscape kit or so I hope. The only way I would consider the 50 APO is in combination with a nice native MF 28mm option.

Very nice series, Helena. I have to say, though, I wouldn't be out shooting in that kind of weather .

Thank you! I won't deny that it can be miserable at times, but it's also fun and invigorating and so worth it in the end. Hope you will enjoy the lens!

I had a few 2.5" disk drives laying around. I gave two to a friend, and decided to open one up.

This is the inside of a 100GB 2.5" 'laptop' drive.

This was taken with the 40 f1.2 with a 16mm extension tube at near MFD. Depth of field looks like ~1/8". I'm still trying to get the read/write heads in focus. Almost there!

I love this lens/body combination!

Thank you! I have been out in such weather with A7 and A7II many times over the years and so far no problems with them. (At least nothing related to the weather - the A7II has had issues with IBIS.) The A7 has even been drenched in salty sea water during a storm in 2015 and still works perfectly!

I gave in and bought this lens based on all the samples here. Typical Fred Miranda Forums Acquisition Sydrome (FMFAS). I got to take some snap shots this past weekend. The most I ever stopped down was 2.8:
