Just wanted to say that I've been really enjoying the look you've brought out in your images, HelenaN. Understated, yet evocative at the same time.

Can someone explain to me what turning off the EFCS does and how it affects the rendering of this lens? I've seen it mentioned now twice in the last page but am not sure exactly what it's doing and how it's affecting rendering. Thanks!

It's not just this lens, it's all mirrorless cameras with any lens. The effect is more pronounced at higher shutter speeds, so with fast lenses like this one at f1.2, you're frequently in that range (over 1/500th or so it becomes noticeable). See the link below (and a more technical explanation in a DPR post is linked in the article):

Thank you dswong and Fred! I love walking around in the farm landscapes near home so it's great to hear that you like them.

The 21mm/3.5 arrived two weeks ago and is as good as everyone say, so I have now sold both CV 15/4.5 and 21/1.8 VM. A couple of days ago I put CV 50/1.5 up for sale. Feels a bit strange since it has been a favorite for years... but when I compared it with 40/1.2 the 40mm won almost every time and I enjoy the focal length more. Next to go is CV 35/1.7.

So what kind of achromatic filter should one get to improve the range in which close head-shots of people are made (so not the super close MFD range but like from 0.5 to 1.5m)?
I read through the first 120 pages and someone said the Leica 55mm one causes vignetting - so that's a no-go for me, don't want vignetting.
Which else to get?

I would say a +1 or a +2 ought to work. I think the Heliopan ones are nice, double coated, Schott glass, and brass rings and not too expensive.

Thanks for your answer Steve.

Unfortunately I am not familiar with achromatic lenses at all (I don't know what + 1 or +2 is) so I would kindly ask you for a specific product name

Well, Heliopan is the product name. Here are some links at B & H:

Thanks again!
So I am guessing +1 is better for the range around 1m and +2 the range from 0.5 to 1m?

Edit: Doesn't seem to be available here in europe, don't know what special glass you have over there

It should be available in Europe Heliopan is a German company and the Schott glass used to make these is definitely made in Germany. You ought to be able to buy them directly from heliopan.com, or at least ask them where to buy them in Europe. I am sure they sell them there. These closeup filters are listed on their website.
