I may have. I had a weird feeling about it. I did return it for a store credit.
The CV 35/1.4 E-mount has more character (which I like but many don't) compared to the 40/1.2 but I don't find it soft wide open even at close distance. Performs similarly to the 40/1.2 up until 0.7m.

I bought this lens to give it a test run during the holidays as my social event lens and it's been holding up well. Here are some notes:
- I didn't know I would enjoy 40mm so much, so that was a learning experience.
- F1.2 and F1.4 were difficult to nail focus at social events. I am wondering if MF is the right choice for this use case and FL
- Lovely rendering, great separation.
- Wonderful size for the occasion and ability, and that might dictate the MF vs. AF discussion. If I am casually bringing around my camera to a dinner party or picnic, I don't want to bring a Zeiss 35/1.4. But given how difficult it was for me to get focus on several pictures, I will have to keep a close "EYE" on the Batis 40/2 to see how it goes.

I love manual focus for landscape images...don't shoot them any other way. But for anything that moves, I just cannot warm up to MF as I miss too many of those special moments that I know I would have captured with AF. This is especially true for the faster apertures which have very little room for focus error.
So for even casual outings...I just don't want to miss a special moment due to focus so I stick to AF for everything other than landscapes.
i've been using this lens for over a year now. This is an AMAZING lens.
If you need a compact and capable lens that can do both portrait and landscape, this is IT.
I've been using it (VM) with techart pro and it is SO good. Only thing is the edge will be dark when you shot at anything below F2.8. A simple adjustment in PS will do the job.
My last CV 40mm shots of 2018. From the roof of the Bonaventure in downtown LA. Im actually going to go back up tonight to a lower spot for a 5 stitch pano i want to do
The first one is a single shot and the 2nd is a 2 shot horizontal Pano. These are 16:9 format for production

Great stuff Guy!
On the first, I would try to go longer, perhaps with your Batis 85 or 135. The Hollywood sign would be more apparent and you would avoid the two big buildings on the foreground. (Unless the whole point of this shot is to show the buildings! )

I’m going to bring up the 135 tonight. But those two buildings do relate to our show . There film studios. I think there Paramounts
