Great pictures in this thread, but man, I'd love for a tech question to not get buried. Please?
If memory serves, someone on the buy/sell board mentioned a similar issue with a 40 they were selling. Maybe search there and PM or contact vendor? Mine doesn't click either.

Everytime I think about selling out of Sony and concentrating on using just Fuji, I use the Vgt lens and realise I can't do it. The closest thing in Fuji land is the Mitakon 35/0.95. I bought it but returned it due to a mechanical fault. It was nice but it is not like the Vgt. I haven't added samples for quite a while but here's a couple more from the other night when I went out to compare my Fuji and Sony kits.
The Nokton 40mm renders almost identically to the Fuji 35/1.4 - to my eye. This is a good thing, because that lens was a big reason I stuck with Fuji for so long. Just exquisite. The fly-by-wire focusing was awful, though. Have you used that one?

No clicking on the 2 I have used. I don't think this is normal.

No clicking here either.
Thanks for the replies, everyone.
I think I may have used incorrect terminology in my description. Clicking would, at least to me, imply tactile feedback like the click of the aperture ring. Ticking may be more accurate. I can't feel it, rather it's only heard, and it's not loud. The focus ring is smooth like butter going either way.
Does that change anything? Granted, I only hear it if it's pretty quiet.
A few from the 40/1.2 recently . . . first and last one were cropped quite a bit.
EDIT: I usually have the f=2m proxar mounted on my 40/1.2, which the candids were taken with - the landscape shot is a rare f/5.6 image for me these days. But it's nice to know that it's great for candids wide open and great for landscapes stopped down.

Thank you!
I had an old Konica 40/1.8 once adapted to an a7. It had a click you are describing. Many users report of rattling noises inside the lens body. In a german forum of photography a brave user has opened a 40mm- lens and found: The noise coming from the diaphragm ring which is mounted on a rotating ring of small metal balls. In order to keep this move, the ring is not completely filled, so that the balls rotate when the lens is moved. I'm not sure if the CV is designed the same way. I didn't care on a $50 vintage Hexanon lens.

Sorry if I'm hijacking the discussion.
I've used the XF35mm f/1.4, but I actually sold mine just a few weeks back. I just hated it's loud AF system so much and I find that the newer XF 35mm f/2 draws prettier background in mid distances. The XF 35/1.4 was a bit harsh if wide open. Close distances it was legendary of course. Currently the XF 50mm f/2 is my Fuji favourite. Tigher, but almost identical look with XF35mm f/1.4 except it renders great no matter the distance. And great AF and MF (for a focus-by-wire). And a lot sharper as well.
Anyone of you using the A7III? How is the shutter sound when NOT using the electronic first curtain shutter-thingy? I guess the "full electric" silent mode avoids this issue (I know the other issues of all-electric silent modes as they are the same with Fujis)? I just recently learned about this efcs-issue of cutting bokeh balls in half and now I see them a LOT in my images that I shot when I still had the A7II. Now that I know what to look for, it really bugs me a lot when I see them. And without the EFCS the shutter was so horrible "clackety-clack!" that I couldn't make myself use it anywhere. If A7III is any better in that department, I could consider it.
PS. I've now ordered the Nokton 40mm f/1.2 VM that I'm planning on using with my Fuji X-T2. Yay! (And with possibly future Sonys whatever.)
I don’t but Breakthrough Photography and Haida are some of the best. Very color neutral. I would lean to Breakthrough first though. Not exactly budget minded but excellent ND and CPL filters.
Just received my 40/1.2 FE after CameraQuest put it in the mail yesterday.
Of course, it just started raining here.
I have lots of old Nikkors and a set of Zeiss ZF lenses and I must say the mechanical quality and finish of this lens is second to none. So far I am very pleased.
Putting objects in focus seems an anticlimax after witnessing the bright colors and forms of the out of focus details!
Thanks Guy, just got my lens as you know. Was planning on using my Lee Big/Little Stopper on it but it
doesn’t appear to have a thread to attach it. The breakthrough ND sounds great if you can explain how it attaches.
