What's with all the secrecy about this latest major development?

Surely Rob or Bill knows what's going on here. ...
I can't add any more than I already have. lighthound wrote:
Is it wrong of me to ask what's going on?
Maybe not "wrong", but is it photographically relevant?

Gotcha, I understand.
"Photographically relevant" ? We're not talking about kayaks here, we're talking a camera and why all relative image data and discussions are being scrubbed off the internet. I don't recall something like this happening before and find this a rather fascinating development 2 weeks before the camera is set to begin shipping.
I could be wrong and maybe this is normal on every new camera release. I've never really followed a release like I have this one.

Results are still on PhotonsToPhotos.
This thread is still here including Garcia's analysis.
The Canon Rumors thread is still there.
I think there are very active threads at kakaku.com and slrclub.com
So it seems to me that your statement about the whole internet is a bit over the top.

All I can say is that I have quite a good track record and that if I had any doubts as to the analysis it would either still be marked as an estimate or would not be on PhotonsToPhotos at all.
+100 @ your work
I hope folks didn't think I was questioning your workmanship ... only that some suspicion regarding the source file had been introduced in some folks minds via the takedown activity.

Hmm. well that's weird because I was trying to find a few of the posted CR2 files but all the links I've found that used to have them are gone/broken now.
All well, no biggie I guess.

I took my files down as soon as I found out it was a preproduction camera. Had I known I'd never have shared them in the first place. Plus they were getting linked to from all over. Not what I had intended.

It would be interesting to compare preprod files with mass production ones when 6dII starts shipping and we get our hands on it *officially*.
Firmware version you tested was 1.0.2, right, Rob?

I wondered if that might happen, after the whole DR thing started to blow up elsewhere.
On the other hand, if the results are correct, then it might be a good thing that Canon are seeing a big backlash for a camera which seems to be missing the improvements all other recent cameras have received

knowing that canon is upset about the early release of these files probably explains why the dpr thread was taken down also. Must have been some miscommunication as to when files could be shared. I still think the final consumer cameras will test the same but Canon seems like it wants to delay the inevitable.

If the results are real then nobody at Canon can be upset with your contact since the public outcry will happen anyway once DXO scores come out.
If the results are not real (and 6Dm2 has good DR like 5Dm4) then this whole thing did cause them a lot of grief but imagine how happy we will all be

One of two things is happening here - either the 6D2 is using the same basic sensor technology (and production equipment perhaps) as the original 6D, in which case it will be about the same in terms of DR. Or, the pre-production models or files were not quite the same as production bodies, in which case the difference will be a lot like 5D3 -> 5D4.

Go to pages 32/33, there are some posted by a member taken from inside a camera shop...
5 CR2 files can be found, if you are looking for any raw.
