Wow, 41 pages on the 6DII only to find out there's no improvement in sensor tech? For those who did not read all of this, what is Canon's target market for this body?
It's not the video market
It's not the "FF upgrade" market because very few would buy a new FF body without advancements in IQ.
It's not the first time camera buyer market because most would be attracted to Sony or similar
That leaves those who are stuck in Canon's ecosystem and wanting their their first Canon full frame? I would just buy a used 6D or 5DIII. At $1500 or less, a used 5DIII is Canon's best FF value right now.
This is getting very interesting. It seems Canon has nowhere to go except for slight improvements in AF and FPS....Show more →

I was dead set to get the 6DII on release to replace my 6D but sadly it would fix none of my qualms with the 6D, namely the AF. I'm sick of focus and recompose, I dont want to do it anymore. I tried using the outer points on the 6D but it was so hit and miss I gave up. Then the 6DII comes along and the spread is not better, maybe even worse, and I would still be focus and recomposing to properly place shots where I want them. Then throw in no 4K, sensor is just a MP bump and nothing else, touch screen is nice but I dont care that much, bleh. Such a disappointment. At this point I knew I either had 2 choices, save for 5D Mk4, or leave.
I grabbed a used A7RII and a Metabones v5 instead and spent a few days customizing it to my liking and learning the system. I took my 15 month old to an indoor playscape and it was like a breath of fresh air shooting with it. I could put my focus point/cluster literally anywhere I wanted and it would pick up his face and lock on, and I didnt even have to use the EVF as the live view was so well done. Pixel peeping with my results today and the keeper rate is pretty exciting for me. I shot the entire afternoon on one battery (~180 shots) and had 57% remaining when I got home. Not too bad really! No more center point focus and recompose! FREEDOM (insert Mel Gibson screaming here) ...Show more →
I am headed that direction too. Have you tried the focus peaking. I know it may be a pain with a zoom lens to zoom then manual focus, but I like the idea that you see everything in focus turn red in the viewfinder.

Probably Amazon overlords or Canon not too happy about anything tanking their pre-order sales.
Well, B&H monitors the forums. I have seen advertisements on youtube for the 6D2 already. If anybody is seeing cancelled preorders, I would think B&H would be seeing them bigtime. Not sure if they have any pull with DPR owners.

The most likely scenario is that Canon asked dpreview to take the thread down based on an interpretation of what disclosures dpreview is allowed to facilitate in terms of making the raws available on a eval copy of a body. I don't believe dpreview would ever take a thread like that down for a reseller's request.

Agreed, but dont overlook the implication for those naysayers who doubt the authenticity of these RAWs.

Interesting that the AF was more than "good enough". Unfortunately over here an A7RII is not really a 6DII competitor - once you factor in the cost of a Metabones V2 and a spare battery or two it costs somewhat closer to a 5D4 than a 6D2.

Eh, we can now quesiton the Dpreview integrity. Deleting the whole thread, which run for several days already, as well as deleting question asking about the deletion itself?
So, what could be the reasons? Of course, just pure speculations:
- Bill himself asked the thread to be removed. E.g. he was receiving some nasty messages from Canon users. This one does not seem to be likely though.
- Dpreview somehow realised they are not sure that sending the files to the third party, who pusblished the measurement, is not legally OK to their NDA, which prohibits them to comment on the image quality or post the images before the certain date. Well, anyway - on less then 2 weeks the truth is going to be public anyway, so ....
- Canon or some big site monitoring forums, and thread causing them the harm already, as there might be certain level of ppl cancelling their preorders. This still might mean, that the results are going to be confirmed, it is just that before real reviews hit the public, the first wave of users are going to own 6DII via the preorders ...
Speculations, speculations, speculations. But the thread did not surely get deleted for no reason ....

One local shop offered us to get the A7RII with latest Metabones adapter being included as part of the deal. But yes, it costs more than 6DII, cca the level of 5DIII, but surely still cheaper than 5DIV.

Perhaps the thread became abusive and got deleted for the same reason Fred deletes threads here....

Of the things you listed I can only say that I did not make such a request; perhaps in time we will know more.
I'd like to add that I rarely get nasty messages from anyone; most people don't shoot the messenger

Ok, which means DPR deleted the whole thread without any reason nor your consent/acknowledgement.
Could it be the Canon forum mod @ DPR who was questioning the RAWs you carried your test with?

I can only say that according to the Terms of Service my consent is not required; no foul there.
And I did get a Private Message, which doesn't always happen due to their work load; so kudos there.
What has happened at dpreview is just a distraction; perhaps we should focus back on the topic?

Then the appropriate response would be to lock the thread and explain why it is being locked -- because the veracity of the RAWs is in doubt or they are plain wrong. Deleting a thread means there is information there that DPR doesnt want people to read -- plain and simple.
