Wasn't a consideration when I bought the A9 but I love how it handles my few vintage lenses. I personally find it easier to nail focus than the A7 and the IQ feels like the A7S but with twice the resolution! Some PP in C1 but the soft/sharp quality is really all the Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 non-Ai shot wide open thanks to the e-shutter.
Can anybody who owns both A9 and A7rii post samples of direct comparison, side by side, same lens, same everything between those 2? So far from the samples posted which are great btw i don't see any improvements in low/high ISO, DR and overall IQ. It looks to me that Sony has put too much efforts to make this camera super fast but somehow forgot to tweak sensor?
^and I thought it was a known, a given, that Sony sacrificed a bit of DR and ISO performance to achieve these blistering speeds
To me A7Rii and a9 are apples and oranges.

It's not an a7iii or a7riii. Entirely new sensor to support the idea of speed. IMO, the fact that they did it in such a way to come close to a7rII IQ is very impressive. As MM said, DR and ISO performance is actually a bit worse on the A9, but for me, the trade off is a really good one.
Currently I have both the a7r2 and the a9 as I was going to spend a month deciding which to keep and which to sell. Ive already made that decision, and it took about 48 hours instead of a month. A9 all the way.
