A bit of good news with the 400DOii + 2.0TCiii + Metabones IV T + alpha9
AF was snappy at large varying distances.......but it was a bright Sunny day.
So AF at F8 is nary a problem of the a9; of course a lot of us will be most curious at F11.2
when we put the FE TC onto the FE100-400.
Here is a shot (too much Sun, a rarity where I live) with the a9 at 800mm

How did you find the AF tracking for these fast moving birds with the Sony a9? I just tried tracking the razor bills and puffins with the omd em1 mark ii and found that the tracking at high frames per second isn't that great so wanted to see if the sony a9 AF compares with tracking and high frames per second. Thanks for your response.
Hello sashasud
I did use only M speed this time. Try to save some space.
I have a feeling that it will not be a problem to follow with high speed also. I am also waiting for FE 100-400 to see situation without extenders.
I did use mostly Lock-On AF:Wide for towards flying birds. I noticed that when you try to get bird in focus you should wait for small green squares start running inside bigger green box before you start shooting. A9 is following and holding correct focus very well. The biggest problem is to hold a bird in a screen correct position.
P.S. Sorry for delayed answer. I was off the net...
200/F2 would be special indeed. For a working pro wedding photographer like you Guy that would be icing on the cake.
For us wannabee wildlife/bird types I'm still dreaming of a 400/4.5...hey it could happen
How about something different?
Poof and I have near completed our own small campervan conversion. This my first time using the Playmemories remote smartphone control (to stay out of the image). Have to say the control via the phone has come a long long way since my NEX-6-
Sony ILCE-9
EF8-15mm f/4L FISHEYE USM
ƒ/7.1 11.0 mm 2 100 Flash (off, did not fire)

Thanks, yeah, I really like the combo so far and it is nice to have a native AF ultra-wide. A little surprising but, I'm not missing the extra 20 mp's from the a7rii...I thought i would, but these a9 files are really nice to work with.
Adapting the EOS 400/5.6 to stay off boredom. While the adapted 400DOii AFs fast enough for BIF the ancient 400/5.6 is too slow, but for perched birds/large animals it will be a fine lightweight (relative I know) tool-
