K-H I'm with you 99 percent.
The one percent not is the 400/2.8.
Would be way to heavy for me.
Given the prowess of the a9 and a7Rii with high ISO
400/4 would be fine for me.
Beautiful hummer shots by the way!
Thanks Robert for the feedback. Good point.
I picked 400/2.8 so that a 1.4x TC yields 560/4 and a 2x TC gives 800/5.6.
A 560/5.6 would be okay on the A9, an 800/8 too slow for what I would like.
Having big tuna 300/2.8 SHG on the E-M1.2 is FF FOV equivalent of 600/2.8 or with 2x TC 1200/5.6.
Way way off topic I know....but I shot with 400DOii + 2.0TCiii today and love the combo.
On the 1DXii F8 still gives all AF points. Isn't this also the case with the A9 ??
You're right in that it's slow, only if you don't have the light, and you and I know that combo
is best left at home on crap light days.
I'll always envy your big tuna!
But a 2.0TC with the FE100-400 is also a curiosity, not something I'll sink money into unless
Sony has done something really amazing there.

Agreed. Well I am interested in taking pictures of the Turkey Vultures in Bandelier when they return to their roost for the night. There is never much light when they finally show up.
That's one of the reasons why I got big tuna in the first place. .
That lens performs and is built like a tank, tripod use for me.
At this early stage of me using the A9 with silent shutter, Center or Lock-on AF: Center seem to work well.
If I use Lock-on AF: Expand Flexible Spot it seems to have some difficulty focusing on a narrow central subject in front of a close-by background.
I took the camera out for a wedding yesterday, holy smokes! It's like shooting with a silenced MP5. I'd be lying if I said I didn't want another one. Sometimes, face detection would acquire the wrong face, i think in the future, I am going to register bride and groom faces on wedding days. I reconfigured the center joystick button to activate AF. Eye AF, what a treat!! It locks on so much further away, there wasn't a processional shot out of focus. The faster buffer and vertical orientation AF point make life so much easier. This purchase was worth every cent!!
Thanks, these are great. I have a rental A9 and yesterday I had a chance to try some Canon lenses on it. I can't find the lens hood for it and was getting a lot of flare, but I did have a chance to try the 85 f1.2, the 17-40 f4, the 180 f3.5 Macro and the 300 f2.8IS. I switched back to Nikon when they made the D300, but kept most of my Canon lenses, because you never know…And finally there is a camera I can use with them! I took a few shots with the 135 f2.0 today, but haven’t looked at them yet. The Metabones IV with the latest firmware seems to work pretty well with these lenses. It’s useless on the A7r, but does anyone know how it focuses these lenses on the A7r II compared to the A9?
