As I have asked on the 400/2.8GM thread, I am wondering how much better in terms of autofocus with 2X when compared with 400/2.8 prime vs 100-400GM. I found the that 2X has really slowed down the 100-400GM lens.
Here are a few images at 800mm with 100-400GM.
I'm trying a A9 + MC-11 on my Canon glass. I have been shooting with it for 4-5 outings so far and have some excellent results along with a lot of failures.
This is one of my first shots. Shooting with the bare 600 at minimum focus distance in dark forest at ISO 2500 - call me impressed.

IMHO backgrounds chosen for so many of the bird images on this thread would benefit from additional thought on the part of the photographer and additional Photoshop skills

Sweet images! Can see a little noise when zoomed in, but to be expected at that iso.
Very nice images regardless. How is the combo with the 500/II, and with 1.4x and 2X converters?
Folks were saying the 600/4 II is almost like native. I’m curious about the 500, maybe I need to upgrade my VI.
The 600 would be a stretch comparatively, plus the 500 is a lot better to hand hold.

Thank you. Af slows down a bit with 1.4tc attached but still good for flight shots but with 2x ; no go for bif , but good for stationary shots.
