Per coincidence I read The Atlantic and, having the EXIF viewer enabled in my browser, saw that the photojournalist used the A9 (whether you like the image or not, is another issue. I won't comment):

Still trying to figure out how to embed images here, hopefully this looks better than my previous efforts. The more I use the A9, the more impressive it seems. I thought the A7R3 was great, but the A9 is in another league.
Fingers crossed! https://farm1.staticflickr.com/935/43737641001_0c8d65c08b_o_d.jpg
Scott I have to agree. House on fire I'd grab the a9 over the Riii. I gave my Rii to the better-half and she is amazed at the DR/shadow pull capability of the Rii. We did almost a month in NL May/June and I'd use the a9 for anything moving, the Riii for landscape snaps, and the RX10iv when I had to walk a ways from the camper. Those camera job assignments work for me.
I don't do much bird photography or action for that matter, but I took a few shots of seagulls yesterday while at the beach with the family, and the A9 autofocus really is something special!
My first day with the 100-400 GM on the a9. I think it will be a great lens for the lake (good light) and I look forward to what it can do with sports with good light.
