And Geoff that is why we both want the a7000
And me too when I had 1DXii + 7Dii. Just more keepers with the 7Dii
but I'll add ~and hope you agree~ that (and for this I considered the 1DXii and now a9) the
mid-distance body----meaning if I could get close enough to fill the frame I'd do fine. Longer
where the subject was 1/20th the frame then usually not so well.
The a9 defies that logic many times over, and better than the 1DXii, maybe the extra 4mpx between the two--not a whole lot better but I have cropped to a larger amount with the Sony.
All this positing that cropper has an advantage in the longer distances.
But pixel density is understood in this thread and embraced.....not so among all photographers.
Matters not. The a7000 + 200-600 is coming. Will I still be alive, that's my question ha!
Some horrible news yesterday.
Geoff you know I feed several hawks in the neighborhood and have fed them for years.
Yesterday we found the female. All evidence points to electrocution.
I'm pretty torn up about it. I've lost kids, wives, brothers, parents but a hawk has brought me
down a notch.

I appreciate the sentiments. I just went out and saw the male sitting all alone atop a tall oak tree. I feel for him. Let's hope he finds a mate.
As a retiree from an electrical utility...they are required to minimize electrocution of raptors (plus they cause outages) and have means to protect future birds if they are informed of the pole or transformer in question.

Sorry to hear about the death of the hawk. Just finished putting up my UV reflective window stickers to try and stop the bird massacre happening on my front deck every few days. So far this year between the two houses on the property:
1 Evening Grosbeak
1 Western Tanager
1 Spotted Towhee
1 Varied Thrush
3 Rufous hummers
2 Anna hummers
3 Purple Finch
1 Chestnut back Chickadee
1 American Goldfinch
1 Townsend's Warbler

All one has to do is buy a roll of the "frosted" MacTac. Cut out 2-inch squares and place them randomly or in a pattern, about 12" apart. They can be easily squeegeed over when cleaning the glass, and are easily peeled off without leaving any residue. Probably gives you a couple of hundred squares for less than $10.

My God man you have a graveyard populating there!
Hey you took action. I've never had a window death here luckily.
Appreciate the thoughts on the hawk.
I've watched the parents drive away fledges for years now and it's become a
conundrum for them. Maybe it takes two to force the young away? Today I
watched the juve sit on our hawk tower, just sit there crying while the male flew by
70 meters away.
You know I'm good with all the hawks that want to come for the buffet but this is just
strange times in the backyard.
Did spot a Cooper's about a block down the street. Invited him of course but he went the
opposite direction.

Birds shoulds not be able to see through a front window, back to a rear window, or they will think they can just fly through your house.
My current bird massacre house has no way to see through to the rear windows. But the front windows are massive and face south so reflection is strong. I close the blinds to reduce the reflection and now have the stickers out. I'm out of here at the end of August so it will be someone else problem then. My new house should have less issue I hope...mostly because the yard will be shrinking from 5 acres to 1/2 acre and main windows are second story...but of course I have no idea what it will be like there until I move in.
Still trying to figure out how to embed images here, hopefully this looks better than my previous efforts. The more I use the A9, the more impressive it seems. I thought the A7R3 was great, but the A9 is in another league.
Fingers crossed! https://farm1.staticflickr.com/935/43737641001_0c8d65c08b_o_d.jpg
