Mitakon 65/1.4 @ f/1.4. I really don't like this lens for the type of images I do. Unsharp, nearly impossible to focus, busy bokeh and heavy as f*ck...

Samyang 135/2 is a lens I do like though...

Nikkor 85/1.8 K (pre-AI) is interesting with a closeup lens. Horrible bokeh a distance, but covers the whole sensor.

And two with the 63/2.8 which has become my favorite.

Hey Rick,

Nice images from 2nd Beach. I'm heading there myself later this month. Now I know which lens to bring with me.

Sharpening GFX files in C1 has been an interesting journey for me. The defaults are way too much. I've finally settled on Amount: 55, Radius: .2, Threshold: 3. I left NR alone as I couldn't see any difference.

I often shoot at f/16 and f/22. I find that I almost always use diffraction correction on f/22, but it's situational at f/16. If there's a lot of detail (foliage) then I'll use it. If the image is sea stacks, like yours, I usually won't use it because of the sharpening halos around the stacks. I think it has to do with the high contrast between the stack and the sky. I see it around trees too.

I've also learned to be very limited in Shadow/highlight and clarity adjustments with sea stack or lighthouse images. They can result in very large halos around the subject. Thankfully, Luma Masking to the rescue.

Enjoying your images here and on Facebook.

Cheers,
David

Thanks for the sharpening info.

Make sure you download and take tide charts with you. Every beach/campground I went to had tide charts from last year. I got lucky and happened to be there when low tide corresponded with sunset.

You'll be shocked by the quality of the GF23, as I was a few weeks ago. I'd been using my Canon 24 tilt-shift (current version) and thought it was quite good. Until the GF23 arrived, that is. Around 5.6-8, they're about the same in the center, but the similarity ends there. Edges and corners are much better in the Fuji; it's not a subtle difference. I posted a few samples at the time, if you haven't seen them.

Here is a shot of my son at his piano recital yesterday. It is with the GFX 50s using the Leica R 80mm f/1.4 shot wide open. This is a 58mm f/1.0 35mm FF equivalent. I have always loved the rendering of this lens.
