p.1 #1 · X-T2: shutter count and fit/finish question

I had an opportunity to buy a nice X-T2 in "open box" condition for a great price, and I have a couple questions for X-T2 users...

(1) On the drive mode dial, do your positions line up with the line? On mine, the S, for example, is a bit off to the side. On my X-T1, it lined up perfectly.

(2) I realize there's no way to determine the actual number of shutter actuations (like you can with Sony A7 series cameras). However, can I read anything into the file numbers? This "open box" camera that I just got yesterday (and which could not have been out of the store for more than 14 days with the previous owner) has a file number up at 5700 already. Does that actually mean there have been 5700+ actuations within that 14 day period with the previous owner?

Thanks! Rob

on my X-T2, the knob lines up.

I would assume that yes, the shutter has been fired 5700 times. I think the shutter count is kept in the EXIF data (use exiftool or something) but realize how many people like Ch mode and hold the shutter down for that visceral thrill of pretending to work for Sports Illustrated.

I haven't tested it now, as I don't want to mess up my file numbering system, but I believe that if you insert a memory card that has already been formatted and used it a different Fuji camera, like the X-Pro2, it will continue the numbering from the highest filenumber on that card when used in the X-T2.

At least I know my Nikon is like that.

Aha! That may be what is going on here because I took a card from my X-T1, which was around 5200, and stuffed it into the X-T2 without formatting. That would certainly explain why both of them were in the mid 5000s...

Bottom-line is (from what I've seen) there's not way to figure out the actual shutter count because Fuji doesn't write it into the EXIF data like Sony and others do.

Shoot, that's not good. It seems to work fine but it also seem strange that it would be out of alignment on a (nearly) brand new camera. Oh well, I'll see what the store has to say.

you may want to send a picture of the mis-alignment to Fuji Canada and see what they have to say.

Good idea Howard. Thanks. I'll start with the store but this is a good backup plan.

Howard, I can't post directly to the forum, but here's a link to a quick shot showing the knob slightly out of position.

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B7LdVznTJdvWckRpSVFZdUFGMm8

I talked to the store where I got it (in Canada). It seems I'm awfully lucky to have this thing in my hand. They have 9 customers who have paid in full for an X-T2 months ago and are still waiting... There are none to be had in their supply chain. Anyway, they're happy to give me a new one (with the price difference) once it comes in, which seems to be on the 5th of Never! Or I can send it to Fuji and have it repaired (within 6-8 weeks).

So far it seems to work just fine and I don't want to be without it for 6-8 weeks, so I'll wait for a bit and see how it goes.

Thanks for the picture. Yea, mine does line up better than that.

Sorta odd (IMO) that the customers are waiting that long. I dont think the wait time in the USA is anywhere near that. I pre-ordered something like a week before shipping date and had it in my hands promptly.

Is it a 'Canadian' thing (ie. are other stores in CA also w/o inventory)?

Plenty of US stores are also without inventory, and have been for some time, with a reasonably long wait list. Most people that are getting their hands on them recently (myself included) are doing so by calling up smaller local stores with their fingers crossed, haha. B&H is quoting 12 weeks before having new availability (due to backlog of orders that have to be filled first, waiting for shipment, etc.).

Some Canadian sellers are out and taking pre-orders, while others indicate stock -- so likely same deal as in US. Our biggest chain in Canada is called Henry's, and they seem to be quite thoroughly out at the moment.

I believe it's in Calgary, not Vancouver. Leo's is the big name in Vancouver.

Thanks.

For us, everything in Canada is simply 'North' or 'up there'

Don't forget the coffee... Tim Horton's has the perfect combination of donuts and coffee.

Shutter Count has been properly written to X-T2 files since FW update v1.10

It's not stored in standard EXIF, but in Fuji's proprietary Makernotes metadata.

Exiftool will display it. Editing programs overwrite it.
