I apologize, as I think I posted too soon. I got an enthusiastic email about Kolari pulling the cover. I reflected here, and followed up with encouragement. A bit later I got a response :
"For now I'm trying to work out the cover glass removal. The Sony stacks are looking more stubborn than the Canon and Nikon stacks."

I've read through this thread a few times but am still a bit confused. As of today, the Kolari UT mod still retains the cover glass, unlike NKIR's mod, right? That is there's still more glass in front of the sensor with the 0.2mm Kolari UT than with NKIR's 0.7, 0.75, and 0.85mm mods?
And for whatever reason NKIR's mods seem to retain AWB functionality better than Kolari UT?

Please tell us more about that monochrome mod! I'm very interested!

Hi Sam,
I just received the camera yesterday. I took it out last night and this is way off topic, I am afraid. Also, this is my first A7rII! So, I have to get sued to the camera itself.
This sample was shot with a 1mm Hoya CM500 (IR cut filter) mounted inside the A7rIIm (so, total glass is 2mm), with a M Rokkor 40/2, ISO6400.

Would any of the new Kolari Magnetic Clip-in Filters for the Sony E-mount restore the original AWB for the current Ultra Thin sensor modification?
Here are the options:
IR Chrome Lite
590nm Infrared
665nm Infrared
720nm Infrared
850nm Infrared
UV/IR Cut Hot Mirror Pro 2
UV/IR Cut H-Alpha
All of the IR filters will only allow IR light to pass, which your UT mod will then (mostly?) kill. The H-Alpha pass is meant for deep sky astro. They're all meant for full-spectrum cameras.
You should check with them, but I think the Hot Mirror Pro 2 might be the same coatings they use for the UT mod itself, so I'm pretty sure you'd be adding thickness without solving the problem.
One thing that improved the AWB response with my UT-modded rIII was adding Leica/B&W 486 UV/IR cut filters to my lenses. It's a pricey solution, but, if you want to test it out, I'd be happy to loan you one. I've got plenty of spares, particularly E39s, but other sizes as well. As an M9 owner, it might also increase your happiness with the results from that camera.

"Another thing Sam mentioned to me was very interesting: "it seems that there are newest STC thin filter @0.5mm or 0.85mm with 100% sony colour /AWB profile, there will be no awb / colour problems."
Sam's Link to STC glass
Sam, since this link takes us to an external filter, are you using any special filters on the lens itself? It is making me think of the "hot mirror" technique which Ilija describes. Or, is this link to show the glass you are using either 1) in LPF1 or LPF2 or the actual sensor cover?"
The link no longer work so I don't know which filter specs he was referring to.

Charlie (uhoh7) was one of the first to have a Kolari Vision mod to his A7. As I recall, he changed the mod from a V2 to V2 and back to a V3, but I do not believe that he had the UT sensor mod performed, but he may have.
Sam now uses the mod from the source in Taiwan and I am not sure if he ever had a Kolari Vision UT or any other Kolari Vision mod.
This is the thread that he started in July of this year:

Talking about increase in thickness, a mount filter solution may improve the performance of native glass when combined with a UT modded body. Something like this for example: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1583730-REG/kase_1128010001_mc_uv_clip_in_filter.html
I could probably test this. I'm away from most of my lenses, but I just got the Kase filters before I got on the road and I do have both my NKIR modded my OEM A7rII's.
Not sure what lens would be best, but I five lenses with me.

I needed to apologize about the thin filter, for the thin filter 0.5 or 0.85 are not made by STC.
He never linked anything further or gave us any other details. The original STC site isn't cached anywhere that I can find.
