How is the AF on the 40mm? I had it briefly a good while back (prior to the firmware update) and was not super impressed with it on the A73 I had at the time.

Seems to work fine for me on a7R2 and a7R4 -- reliable and accurate.
I can't judge how it handles "action" shots such as sports or fast-paced movement, but I don't think that is a priority on its design or manufacture.
The Batis 40 has a 3-position focus distance switch, designed (apparently) to aid in faster focus acquisition since it is a close-focusing lens. That should aid in speed in certain situations.
In "normal" circumstances, the Batis 40 seems great. But I'm more interested in focus accuracy than speed. YMMV!
If you have a unique lighting mood, with great colors and contrasts, the Batis 40/2 can reproduce it very nicely without having to work on it for hours in LR. I keep noticing that with the Batis 40/2. I often like the results very much. When it comes to contrasts, it's sometimes a beast that needs to be tamed.
What an amazing light! Ideal for a Batis lens. I was out in the evening with my daughter and our Akita Inu. Unfortunately, it was very cloudy in the forest. As we walked back across a golf course later in the sunset, the sun came out.
Twenty-four (24)-stacked images using a short extension tube - I used PS to do the stacking and I noticed that the process wasn’t fully seamless. Based on some online reviews, I understood that it happens here and there. If I do this more often, I believe it may be worth getting a specialized stacking software but PS is readily available to me…
