I hope you guys are buying them used (~$1,650). It's built like a tank.

I looked everywhere and couldn't find a used one - except out of country on eBay, and I couldn't be guaranteed of getting it before I leave the country on 12/16, and also one at LensRentals whose price was higher than buying new with the rebate.

This is what comes from a GAS attack

Put lens at infinity put camera setting not lens at F22 take a blank shot. Than open camera setting back to F2 . Than shoot as normal than you will get Exif data. The hard part for me is getting the lens back to infinity after shooting manual focus a bit. I always forget to put lens back to infinity for AF

somewhat off topic: can someone direct me to a thread that discusses settings for and use of TAP, specifically for the ZM 35 1.4?

just to make sure I understand, and by the way I only plan to shoot AF with this lens, I should set the lens itself to infinity but then set aperture on the A7Rii however I want (such as f/1.4)?

Are there any special settings I need to set on TAP itself?

If I were in the market for a fast 35, the FLE would be preferable due to size and close enough in optics. Any idea how badly it smears compared to the ZM?

A number of people (Charles K in particular) have used it on the Sony A7 series cameras and for close shooting it does well, but I would expect some smearing at infinity focus. The exact extent of it I can't say. Here is one test where it is compared to the Sony/Zeiss 35 f/1.4 that I think shows its performance pretty nicely:

What he said.

Also if you want close-up shots, move the focusing ring to 0.9m and shoot way with TAP!

Not really you can start right out of the box. There are some settings where to park the focusing mechanism hut they have a little cheat sheet for those. Plus instructions on how to update software. Fred's very very long thread now has a lot of this in the beginning on how to use. It's really pretty basic. But you will want to use center point and I have luck with both AFC and AFS but I think most like AFC better.

Nice trick I do is my custom function button 2 is I made it AF/ MF toggle and I can jump back and forth on camera and keep the lens out of that decision process. My magnify is C1 . This makes it very quick to go back and forth and get magnify as well. Lots of fun

thanks Guy. I was going to ask questions related to firmware, but I'll check out Fred's TAP post and see if I can find answers there. Lens, hood and adapter arrive Tuesday!

Great gets some reading in and have a great Thanksgiving. You should really like it and if not you have a return window. I registered it on line to get my rebate on my 50 1.5 and it took only two weeks for the rebate

Last night I had to kill some time at a train station and decided to try out the ZM 35 1.4.

(shot wide open handheld on A7rII)

The crazy thing is: even with the filter stack issues it might still be one of the - if not the - best 35mm lenses for A7 cameras.
There is one thing I regret though: not having bought this one earlier...

Agreed! My quest for a great 35mm ended when I bought this lens!

Far as I can tell from all the reports, it's the best 35 on the r2. I'm shooting the RX1rii now, a loaner, and I finally "get it" with the r2 sensor. Files are so off the hook

I don't know if I will end up with a ZM 35/1.4, but I am seriously lusting after a Kolari A7rii Starting to comb ads to find a clean body, but I think my best chances for one affordable to me will be after xmass. Then I will try to pull out a bunch of M lenses, shoot them stock at infinty, send the body to Kolari, and test again when it returns.

Lensrentals shows the builds are better on the latest natives, but I like my lenses now, and compact is important to me. The techart should be fine with a thin-filter I think, and so all my problems could conceivably be addressed

Photography problems, that is I'll keep the M9, of course. It only gets sexier

I used the 35/1.4 ZM + TAP for Thanksgiving (family stuff) and noticed something that I already knew but didn't think it was a big deal.

The 35/1.4 ZM has floating elements and placing the focusing ring at infinity and letting TAP do the work does not always translates to the best performance at close at range like environmental portraits, etc.
So, there is a noticeable difference in resolution when focusing manually by moving the focusing ring when compared to using TAP at infinity.

The workaround could be to move the focusing ring to ~ 1.5m when using TAP at close range.

So, the FLE and ZM 35/1.4 are equal in this respect, more or less.

When we first began looking at the RF lenses on A7 sensor stacks in lat 2013, I remember the only lens I thought seemed great across the frame like the 35/2.8 native was the FLE.

We do know the ZM may be ever so slightly better technically on M, as the mid zones are flatter (not that I ever saw this in a photo).

The FLE was getting a very high price then, but today you can find sales well under 3k. Allen posts so many great shots with this lens in many situations I know feel I know it a bit. Of course ZM is half price, which is big

That seller is legit; I've ordered from him before and he occasionally has killer deals on M mount stuff.
