Hi, I am currently traveling and my Zeiss Loxia 21mm focus ring is stuck on infinity and it's physically locked into place. Has anyone seen this behavior before? Any suggestions while traveling?
UGH this just happened to me today and I'm in the middle of Torres del Paine. Ominous. I was hoping it was a hidden feature of the lens to lock it's focus.
Oh no, so sorry to hear that. Well, at least your landscapes with infinite focus will look sharp.
As an update - I found no user serviceable way to fix this, so I had to send it back to Zeiss. Was covered under warranty for me eventually, although the distributor really tried to scare me that it would not be (as in: on no I see a minor scratch on the hood - you must have dropped it and it's your fault).
I have to review the warranty terms but I purchased it near its first availability -- 2 years+ ago. Sounds like Zeiss will get it either way and I'll have to pay up some cash.
Yeah the photos at f14 are still rendering pretty well. I also have the Laowa 15 f2 for wider things but the Loxia renders colors too well

+1 and that goes for the entire Loxia line. (which I love btw)
I wonder if forcing the focusing ring to help mount/unmount will cause issues over the years. The design leaves very little non-moving surface.
Agreed, the susceptibility to exert force against the focus ring hard stops to mount/dismount is the one and only issue I have with the Loxias. Trying to grab the tiny non-rotating section of the lens close to the body is not always easy.

Yes, it just makes it hard to switch lenses in a hurry...like the lighting is changing.
I wonder if the rubber O-ring gaskets are interchangeable between the Loxia and Batis lenses? The Batis gasket doesn't seem to be nearly as tight as the Loxia.

I had the same problem, but after I dropped the len by an accidence.
Fortunately I sent it to Zeiss for warranty and I had been fixed at no cost.
I think there should be a physical damage to your len.
This just happened to my Loxia 21 also on a one week field trip. Stuck hard at infinity. There was an indication on the last shoot prior to lock-up where infinity suddenly started being a bit sticky, and then when cleaning the camera later in the day, the lens was locked solid. I never use excessive pressure when mounting/unmounting, and there were no knocks or bumps to lens or camera.
Never seen this with any other lens I've owned. Not good.
I turn using the lens hood. This way there is no pressure on the focus ring or the aperture ring. This works for both putting the Loxia lenses on and taking them off.
** Ignore this suggestion. I just read in another post that using the hood could loosen up the optical head from the focus mount.
