That held you back at your shoot?
It wasn't a "shoot". Like I said it was a test drive. For $2.2k, I want things like a real circular swm and far better build quality. Bokeh is ok, my 85 1.4D is just as nice imo. I think the lens is grossly over priced for what it delivers and how it's constructed. YMMV

Just took this lens for an extended test shoot today, ain't for me. Specially with the "pseudo" swm nylon gear af. Aside from that bokeh is so so, my 85D will suffice. $2.2K?? C'mon Nikon, how about a 200mm f4 micro FL AFS refresh?
The 85D is garbage compared to what the 105 1.4E produces.
When shooting full body photo's with this lens if I shoot at 1.4 the feet are a little OOF, do you think this is a bad thing, shooting full body should I maybe go to like F2 or 2.8? sometimes I wonder if i'm just OCD'ing...

Shoot whatever aperture you like the best and if the feet out of focus bother's you then shoot at F2 or F2.8. For me, I don't think I've ever in my life checked to see if someone's feet were in focus....
No, but I just don't get it. The Sigma 135mm will be an amazing lens that rivals the 105mm. Both lenses will be capable of producing amazing results so why try and justify your 105mm purchase with a piss poor review of some guy wearing a flamingo jacket and toy blue glasses.
Shots from yesterday afternoon before the storms set in
I love the combo of the D810 and 105/1.4, but I do prefer the size of my D750. That said the AF of the D810 and 105/1.4 just works and rarely misses. If it does miss it comes down to my technique and lack of concentration. Also it means most people can pick up the combo and have no real issues is capturing a shot. The bottom shot was taken by our close friend of my wife and myself which is often difficult to do

I'm going off of the 85 1.4 Art. I don't think the rendering and color look as good as the 105 1.4E. What makes you think the Sigma 135 will rival the 105? I haven't seen any Sigma lens look as good as the 105 1.4E for portraits. If it does rival it though i'll buy it in a second. But color and bokeh / rendering are the most important things to me when it comes to choosing a lens.
