Shot two weddings with it this weekend while I have it on rental and my sigma 85 is out for repair. Images look nice, sigma is faster at getting focus in the dark. The focal length was more awkward then I thought it would be for me. Weird how 85 felt too close when paired with my 50 and 100 felt too far. I have not reviewed the images yet. Back of my camera didnt show me anything mind blowing in relation to what I usually get with my 85. Bokeh was a little better and definately smoother but I wasn't absolutely sold yet. I kept thinking the lens reminded me a lot of the 85 1.2.

Both the above two posts show pictures which would have been better done on the 58G. I'm now less convinced than ever that this lens is a 58G beater. It's more like a slightly sharper and less CA prone version of the 85G. The bokeh in the shot with the girl and dog is not really that smooth.
I have to agree... and disagree.
This is the 50G vs 58G debate all over again, just like it was back in 2013-2014...
There is a whooping 638% increase of the price from 50mm f/1.8G to 58mm f/1.4G, yet the 50mm can do 95% of what 58mm can do.
Likewise with the 85mm f/1.8g vs 105mm f/1.4E, there is a 361% increase in price, yet both come very close (arguably)
The 105E and 58G are premium lenses for those who can allow themselves to purchase them, whether to own the best tools for the job or rich folks who just want to own the best
Had I done photography on the side without shooting weddings, I'd own a 28, 50 and 85 1.8G counterparts and nothing else.
I find this lens to render weirdly. In some images it have amazing rendering of the background, and in others it looks harsh and unpleasant. Really odd.
