Is it cheaper from Canada with the exchange rate? I did this with one of my D750's, saved a few hundred. And shipping was cheap and not that slow. Never had to send it back, but if I did, wouldn't have been the end of the world to ship it to Canada.
A little comparison between 105E + 58G and 85G + 58G (back when I had the 85G)
I never seem to get rid of the 58g though... I've owned it for like 2.5 years already...
So, now that some time passed, what is your opinion guys about 105E vs 85 1.4G ?
I own the 85 and I love it, sharpness wide open is fine for me. But maybe 105 would be good for close head-shots, anyone owning both can compare the two lenses in the sharpness/colors/bokeh categories ? Mainly trying to keep these 2300 euros for upgrading my body (D600 > D810) but this lens is sexy for sure.

there is nothing wrong with the 85 1.4g
as you know............
sharpish wide open
creamy delish bokeh
af works fine for portrait
light weight and smallish
affordable
if you have a 35 1.4 and love it, get a 85 1.4g and save $900.
but if you have a 58 1.4, get the 105!!!
the 105 is sharper wide open
they are both similar with regard to AF.
they both have good color and need a little bump in contrast.
u don't need both.
so if you let us knw what else you own, it'll be helpful.
hope this helps in some way.

Thanks a lot for your insight ! My head knows that I don't need both but my heart is charmed by this sexy front element
I have : 35 1.4G, 50 1.8G (don't like much this FL so I chose the cheapest lens) and 85 1.4G. Rest are 12-24 Sigma and Tamron 90 Macro, I use them only for special shots. I'm planning to buy the 24 1.8G and I should be set with a complete set of primes : 24 1.8 - 35 1.4 - 50 1.8 - 85 1.4. That was my plan all along and then Nikon delivers this 105 beast and I got irrational
I think you're right regarding the lenses combo, the 105 must be perfect for the 58G owners but since I'm more of a 35mm guy I went with the 85 since 35-105 is too wide of a gap.
I should be better off saving for a D810/D820 then, thanks a lot !

funny, like 2.5 years is a decade or something!
they always say, get good glass, it'll last you forever. but bodies come and go.
I'm worse than you. I've bought and sold at least 12 lenses this year.
but I'm set now
24 58 105
with a zoom on either end.
but dude, don't ever sell your 58.
you have a special bond with that piece!

That was a problem with bodies for me...
I went through so many bodies...
I said screw it, I will settle on D3s bodies. Best low light cameras (still today, arguable though) and have the features I need.
Low 12 MP count = faster batch wedding photos editing, AF is incredible, etc etc.
I'm all set with camera bodies for a long time.
Glass, on the other hand, is a tad bit different...
