i sent mine in for cleaning because of dust, but I live west of the Mississippi and mine went to California. I got it back within seven days. Elijah sent his in, I think his took nearly a month. Nikon over in California was fast. I think after receiving the lens they started working on it within a couple of days and shipped it back out within a couple of days. However a month later mine started showing dust again throughout the lens and I deemed it a lemon and sold it and got me a new one. So far I have not had any issues with the new one that I purchased.

has anyone sent one of these to nikon in the past 60 days for cleaning? if so, how long did it take?
the reason I ask...
last year, they were turning them for NPS in 3 days.
earlier this summer, for NPS, they were taking a month or so, due to "parts".

when you look at the front glass, there seems to be a weird opening around the edge, just above the glass... but before the threads. maybe the reason Elijah's took so long is that they are adding or replacing parts. and they had run out.
mine was done super fast last year.
do you see a gap on yours?
Take a look at these photos and tell me if you’re seeing anything that you’re talking about because I’m not exactly sure where I need to look. I have a feeling it’s right there on top. If you’re talking about maybe a slight gap in that retention ring that holds the front element in, is this what you’re referring to?

I received my copy a week ago (haven't had a chance to shoot it as my D850 isn't here yet 😡 ) but will look when I get home.

That gap is by design and if you look closely under the gap, there are shims at regular spacing that press against the front element. Even the Nikon website images of the lens show the gap, so all is good no need to worry, mine is the same.
