I talked to Adorama about my pre-order today and they're expecting it to ship the first week of Sept. I put it in a couple days after announcement so hopefully it'll ship sooner than that.

An awful lot of the stuff made in China is made to exceptionally high standards. Volume of manufacture and low cost of labour keeps things affordable. Want Western manufactured lenses? Then buy Zeiss - manual focus with an appropriately Western price tag......

There's a plate on the lens which says "made in China" if you mean that (I had one in my hands a few weeks ago).
I don't have any problem with it, I'll still get one.

Called my dealer. Nikon Canada has a few of these in stock right now and are starting to distribute to stores. They said it should be in stock early next week. That means out to me mid to late next week hopefully.

There are better quality cheaper priced after market parts for almost all cars. Do I put genuine mazda brake pads on my car? No, because many brands outperform them for half the price because they don't have OEM tax added.
If it's $800 cheaper and 95% as good, I can see why people would go with the off brand. My Tamron 90 2.8 with VC looks about equal to me to the Nikon 105, but it's like half the price. If it's another situation like that I will go with the 3rd party in a second.
I don't necessarily have a problem with stuff made in China. Heck Apple is Chinese. What I have an issue with with is them stealing designs and patent violations. Somebody has to pay for the R&D and hard work and then they knock it off. That's just wrong. So you wonder why the 3rd party stuff is cheaper
Does anyone know yet about firmware updates for this lens.? Is it going to require firmware updates like some of the other lenses like the 300mm f/4 etc.? I read that the 200–500mm requires firmware updates and they had to be sent to Nikon to get done. Just curious.
