Practicing birds in flight for a bit today (I've never really put effort into it until recently).
I went out in bright (somewhat crappy) light to keep the SS high.
I used the TC 1.4 III and the D500 on some larger birds. We were just walking, with the dog, but I scouted some good places to sit up and work on it next time!
^ great stuff! Steve. There won't be another big airshow (headlined by the Thunderbird or the Blue Angles) near my area for two months. I have always had trouble with the shutter speed for these kind of jet/prop mix heritage flight. I need to practice panning much more. In the meantime, I got some easy targets, these animals looked like they were thinking.

Thanks Douglas. That one is from RIAT over the weekend, which kept me so busy I'm WAY behind on editing. It was a crazy show. I got a ridiculous amount of pictures, although I'll openly admit I'm going to eliminate many of them.

Steve, with the D500's 10 FPS, I eliminated a lot of the shots from the last airshow too, even though I just shot in bursts, not holding the shutter down for more than 2 seconds at a time. For ME, airshows don't really need frame rate that high, except for the opposing flights of two jets, where the higher frame rate will give me a higher probability of catching two jets in the frame.

Happy shooting.

I leave the frame rate at 7fps...the problem with RIAT is there's 8 hours of solid flying.
Mr Hahn,
16-80mm lens rocks in your hands, I have to admit it.
We know a lot about D500 so far, but number of images taken with that lens is still limited, and they are very welcome, especially paired with D500.
