Today I used this lens for its first workout. A dance concert in our little town Shot on a d500. It didn't miss a beat. Took a full 128gb worth of shots so about 2600.
It was great shooting at f1.8 allowed me to keep iso at around 2000 compared to last year with the d800e where I was at 3200 with the 70-200.
Focus on the d500 was blazing fast and having an endless buffer on the d500 helped.
The d810 with the 200mm kept running out of buffer after a few shots.
Finally have this. Ridiculous lens! The weight isn't as bad as I expected but the AF and sharpness are on another level. The AF of the 18-35A is a league down from this. This is fast, and precise, all the time.

We are still at a getting-to-know-you stage with this lens. I tried it outside today. I do think it's a bit brighter than it should be(some burnt highlights) but I think I need some more practice. I have also settled on a -3 fine tune setting after this series.
Hmmm...very tempted. All the pictures posted are taken outdoors (with great light)? If I were to get it would be mainly to use for indoor events, anyone able comment how the lens performs indoors (standard home/hall/gym setting)?
I've found the Sigma's range and large aperture fantastic for volleyball in small, dimly lit gyms. My daughter plays D3 vb and access is usually very good from the sidelines and mezzanine. This lens works great on my D7200, can't wait to put my D500 to work this season. I think it should be an impressive combo.
Kudos to Sigma for supporting the crop frame format. They are filling a void in Nikon's DX line up as well as Canon. This combo goes a long way towards equalizizing FF and crop frame for a lower total system cost. If only Sigma had done this years earlier I wouldn't have so many FF cameras,
