That will depend on what's causing the issue, and since there are 100's of parameters, you would need access to an optical bench to test and measure it's performance, likely only Cosina would be willing and able to improve it, if it's within spec they probably won't touch it and return it to you.

My copy of the Voigtlander 15/4.5 does not show such corner behaviour on the A7R2.Even PP manipulations with perspective are not changing the overall very good corner behaviour.

If you have a not so great copy of this lens with poor edges, is it possible to have it serviced and improved in anyway?
I do recall someone in this thread that reported sending his copy to Japan for repair and having it returned with a marked improvement (pictures were posted to show it too). But who knows if it was repaired or replaced?

Never too late to show images shot with this fantastic lens. Especially of beautiful Slovenia. It is the perfect small lens for biking.
it sure is great little lens to hike/bike/walk and the best part are the great images you get from it :-)
Really like your impressions of Piran, I must admit I has to be more than 25years since I was there on an elementary school trip I guess it is about time I go visit again...

A couple of "postcards" from Maribor, with nearly 100K people our 2nd largest city... I know, an oversized village for you guys on the other side of the pond...

With this lens in my bag, I am playing with the idea of selling the CV 3.5/21mm ?!?! I guess I`ll have to test this one with the night sky and see what comes out...

This was my favorite 15mm prime for many years starting with the original 36MP A7R.
However with the latest high MP sensors, mid-field and corners are no longer keeping up with the center area even at smaller apertures. The Sony 12-24/4 did already noticeably better than the CV 15 but the new Sigma 14-24/2.8 @15mm is even better than the Sony across the field without compromising color. Still love the compactness, flare resistance and sunstars from the CV 15 though. Hopefully we will get a newer version from Voigtlander or Zeiss.

Hi Fred -
I was thinking of selling my M version for an FE.
Waste of money?
It's curious but they perform 100% equally on the Sony. I guess because it's a slow lens, sensor stack thickness is not a concern.
I'd say, if you have a good M version copy without the high astigmatism towards the corners (smearing) which is common with this lens, I would stick with it.

Is that right? Very interesting! Thanks Fred; saved me some bucks. Be well.

The old town of Piran, Slovenia has a beautiful point filled with great seafood restaurants perfect for watching sunsets.
It looks like we won't be traveling for a while because of this crazy virus pandemic, so I am going through some images from prior trips to get my travel fix.

I have the Sony 12-24 and received my E mount CV 15 yesterday and also was a bit surprised to see that the Sony did a bit better especially at the corners and edges compared to the CV 15. I also have the M mount CV 15 and will compare it to the E mount. However, I just read your comment about the image IQ being similar between the two lenses. Oh well should have read that before ordering.

Hi Mark,
At center the CV 15/4.5 III is still excellent but outside the center area, when compared to the Sony 12-24 and especially Sigma 14-24 (@15mm), it can't keep up in terms of resolution + contrast. However, it has other strengths like size, sunstar, color rendering and flare resistance making it still a great choice.
Guy Mancuso had a 15/4.5 III M-mount that was amazing everywhere in the frame. It took me so many copies of the E-mount to get one that matched it. So yes, the E-mount version does not offer any IQ advantage compared to the M-mount and that was a surprise to me as well.

Fred
In the end is your CV 15mm E mount as consistent across the frame as the Sony 12-24? I would love to see a small 15mm lens that is as consistent across the field as the Loxia 25mm or even the Voigt 21mm Nokton 1.4.
