I got my 4th copy today too but haven't had a chance to test it. This is very unfortunate. Maybe we expect too much and the good copies are just exceptions.

I had this lens pre-ordered, but canceled about a week before it came out. I figured I'd wait to see some reviews first. Well, the experience of Boris and others has led me to pass on this lens. I really wanted it to be a great little lens, but I don't want to play order - test - return - order - test - return - order - test - return trying to find the needle in the haystack. Darn.

Going to the damn grave with me bud. I honestly can't believe what we are seeing. Fred I think we actually have had the bad product as its too perfect .

From Fred's tests, I think Choppy was the best of the bunch. In his comparison of the two, CA was intact on the Choppy sample, but was not present (in camera correction I'm guessing) on his e-mount sample. Removing the CA from the Choppy pic, I think, would have made it even better. Easy enough to do with today's editing programs.

Here it is again. My E-mount vs choppy at f/8. It's really splitting hairs at infinity distance. (LR Default sharpening for both. No profile in-camera or Lightroom applied)
Remember this is 1:1 extreme edges (42MP). They are virtually identical. My copy of the WATE is slightly better than both at f/8 though.

Well, the store is being generous and sending another next day. Still on the Hamster Wheel, Roulette table...
I guess I will try a few more unless Fred wants to trade.

I think Fred sold his to Guy already. Intercept the big brown truck before it gets to Guy's house.

I will return the lens again. My fourth sample will arrive tomorrow.

Absolutely ridiculous.... Is this perhaps something that can be repaired by a good tech? Would cost you a bit of money but would save the hassle of returning 5+ copies. CV should be embarrassed...

With all these bad copies, it makes me feel like I need to test mine again....that there is no way it could be good. At some point the distributors should get the message (which has already happened in the US as they also sell direct) and you would think they'd need to go back to CV with the issue. Eventually we need to hear what CV's stance on this.
I imagine Amazon would start looking into this too. Too many returns would normally trip a warning for them.

I'm not sure if anybody in Germany will adjust current Voigtländer lenses.
Even the vendor of my first sample had recommended to just return the lens and not send it in for adjustment.
Two more tries and if they are not successful I give up.

It's really interesting. I've purchased quite a few CV lenses and never had a bad copy. The proof is certainly highlighted in this thread however. Perhaps it's just the recent crop since production of the CV 15/4.5 III series. I have a new CV35/1.7 which appears to be fine. It's a newer issue and I haven't heard of any complaints. Makes me wonder what the CV10 will bring . . .

You mean the CV 12, 14, and 17? (after cropping of course....)
