Last fall while in the Maasai Mara, Kenya, I bumped into a cheetah family on my way to camp. Suffice it to say that we didn't make it to camp until after dark. And that chance sighting turned into an amazing four days shadowing them.
This was actually in one of the conservancy areas, and so over the four days we were mostly alone with them. It was an amazing opportunity to observe them interact, hunt, relax, huddle from the cold and rain, play together, chase off annoying jackals, and get chased by lions and baboons. We lost them several times for several hours and each time thought our encounter was over, but my guide always managed to pick them up again. It finally ended with a successful hunt and kill on the fourth day. Utterly amazing and absolutely beautiful!
All shot with a Canon 7D and 300 f/2.8 L IS mk1 and 70-200 f/4 L IS.

Wow doesn't do justice to both the experience and the photo documentation of not just a sighting but a time in the life. I suspect wildlife photographers/filmmakers have spent weeks and months and not gotten the quality you have demonstrated.
Very special images that make me quite jealous....but having these cats all to yourself makes this even better...
No question, you've got my vote!

What an amazing opportunity... While I have photographed cheetahs and have seen many good cheetah photos, I don't think I've ever seen a documentary series like this. You are very fortunate to have had the opportunity and a guide willing to work this with you.

My favourite cat.....because it's got features of a dog. These are incredible. That would have made my day, week, trip, year...... So much good stuff here, but that first shot needs to grace your wall for sure. Super job.

Amazing photos, they tell the story of what must have been an amazing four days. I especially love the shots that show them in the landscape. Great work!

OMG, I'm just marveling at these wonderful images, but am just plain jealous of the experience you must have had taking them. Thanks so much for sharing.

Beautiful series and goes to shows that those who said the 7D was not a capable camera for wildlife did not know what the hell they were talking about.
