I have waited that Sigma comes with E-mount for the Art line lenses. This way there should be given the possibility to change mount on Art lens to E-mount, instead to use a adapter... I have the Sigma 35 Art with Nikon Mount. But now with the release of MC-11 I guess E-mount to Art lenses is not going to happen... Hmmmm...
I think we all got a clue (though none of us knew it at the time) that Sigma might have had the "extender adapter" idea in the works from this interview exchange between Dave Etchells, publisher and editor-in-chief of Imaging Resource, and Sigma CEO Kazuto Yamaki back on April 2, 2014...
<< DE: With many mirrorless cameras having very short flange distances, can you use a similar design for multiple platforms? Basically, design for the largest flange distance, and then just extend the barrel for shorter ones?
KY: The same optics?
DE: Yeah, the same optics.
KY: Yes, we can do that. If we use the same optics, then we can apply to other mounts…
DE: To a different mount, and reprogram the microprocessor.
It looks like Sigma understood that redesigning the optics to accommodate the short flange distance was not financially tenable and that adapting existing longer flange distance lenses with extended barrels would work. But that solution would mean that a mount conversion for, say, and existing EF mount lens to E-mount would incorporate a unique barrel extension which Sigma would have to provide for every mount-converted lens. I'll posit that this solution was, likely, also deemed financially untenable...so, enter the converter/adapter solution. One, er, ring to, um, rule them all...so to speak.
So, given a choice between no short flange Sigma E-mount lenses and adapted long-flange Sigma lenses offering (hopefully) full or nearly-full E-mount functionality (which will also work on their native EF Mount making them dual system!), I'll gladly take the latter!

Seriously? It is design for sigma art lens only man. You didn't check the info on sigma? There is a list of 18 or 19 lenses (all sigma) that will work and benefit from it.
Yes I checked it. My need is for Canon TSE lenses, so I don't need AF bells and whistles. If the adapter understands Sigma lenses which are made to work on Canon bodies then my thought is that there will be enough functionality to get that through if not more.
Then we also have this ...

You can mount a Canon lens, but there's no guarantee that the appropriate information is stored in the adapter to do the proper translations for AF.
Sigma responded to my question, but no surprise, would only say that it works on their lenses. I'm going to cancel and let someone else test it 1st ...
There are some mixed signals about this adapter regarding longer lenses. The major problem of the Metabones (and other) adapters is that they have troubles with most Canon EF (zoom) lenses above +-300mm. It's very unreliable or simply unusable.
It would be an option to go for the LA-EA3 but that would mean a telephoto without IS (which is a major downside because IBIS is less effective at longer focal lengths).
Sigma claims full compatibility of the MC-11 with recent Sigma lenses, including the 150-600mm. But at the moment there's no information about the performance of that lens with the MC-11 on a A7R II. Anyone heard something specific about what to expect?
I think that the totally unique lens that this adapter makes available is the 120-300 f/2.8 OS. That is a great lens for people who want at least decent capability in shooting sports. Canon and Nikon don't really even have a similar f/2.8 zoom and by most accounts it is a quite decently performing lenses. If it works well with the native AF capabilities of the A7rII, it will add a functionality that is currently not available at a price that may entice many to add it. I know as my son gets older and starts doing kiddy sports, we will probably get this lens if the AF performs decently on the Sony.
I really want one right away. I bought and paid for one at B&H but if anyone sees them in the wild for sale sooner please let me know. I'll buy the donuts. Lol

Sigma 24-35 F2 is also pretty unique as well. Quite good too.
Yes, it is. If you want a zoom with that range it is the only f/2 FF available, and thanks for your tests that have it looking like a quite decent performer too.

Anyone know if the 120-300 f/2.8 OS will work with teleconverters on this adapter? It will be interesting to know. That lens as a 125-420 f/4 with a 1.4X TC can be very versatile for some types of shooting. It may well slow the AF too much, however. I guess we will have to wait until people get these in hand.

If we're talking about the original OS version (non-Sport) I'll be giving that lens (EF mount) a true workout on my a6300 when the MC-11 ships (on preorder currently), it's my workhorse lens on my 7D w/wo TC's so I'm hoping for the best here! If it turns out that the MC-11 will only "talk" properly with the Sports version I guess I'll be looking at an upgrade. We'll all know soon enough!

The kits which include Lens + MC-11 adapter are a great idea and I'm curious what sort of discount Sigma will offer when buying both together.
According to that link the 35mm + MC-11 = 155,500 Yen = $1375.19 USD, and the 50mm + MC-11 = 164,500 Yen = $1454.79 USD. Also of note is the 5,000 availability limit from the google translation...

It could be. The price converted to U.S. dollars would certainly be too high/ wrong given that the combined price of each sold separately would go for much less here.

Unfortunately not. The adapter explicitly does not work with teleconverters.
This was noted on Brian Smith's site. I'm on my phone so can't dig up the link very easily, but I'm sure the curious can find it.
