Sadly only with Sigma lenses but at 35mm for my shooting style it is not a problem since I use it for environmental portraits were the subject is not close enough for it to work even with the Zeiss.
But if someone likes to shoot closer to the subject with the 35mm then I can see how Eye AF will surely be nice since its a feature I absolutely love.

Thanks; I thought that likely. Yeah I generally shoot EPs close enough for eyeAF (find it generally works when most of a seated subject is in the frame), and would't be without it. I have been tempted by the Canon MkII; seems like its even sharper wide open than the Sigma, has the bokeh of the ZA and better LoCA control than either. But no so massively so that it's worth (for me) the hassle of change and of losing eyeAF. Easily the best of the non-supertele Canon primes!

I wonder when they will get around to updating others? I think it's telling that Canon focusses on updating L zooms: here's my heretical hunch. We enthusiasts (who might sell a few pics on the side but it's not our day job) have the luxury of being able to use primes, because we care more about the experience, and the quality of the image if we get it, than having to get certain images. People whose livelihood depends on getting certain images are more likely to regard as basic a set of fast zooms covering the ranges they need: and Canon is catering to those folk.

Yeah they do have many primes in desperate need of updating like the 135mm F2 and 50mm 1.2 which are just too soft and with other flaws for my liking..thena gain at 135mm I would surely want Eye AF. It is the only reason I am still tempted by the 70-200mm GM even when reports are not so promising about it even matching the Canon IS ii so far.

I mean, I love the Canon one but if I can get Eye AF then I am there.
So basically for my needs, anything under 50mm , I am fine without Eye AF since at the distance I shoot EPs even at 1.4 a 35mm will give me enough in focus area that the regular Face detection will be enough for sharp subjects.

- Short review of firmware ver 1.04

I just upgraded to the new firmware 1.04 and though the update does not refer anything to AF performance but the AF does improved. At least for my Sigma 50 1.4 EX DG HSM (Non-Art, old version). I use A7ii
At the firmware 1.03, the AF on this 50/1.4 does work but when you change the focus distance significantly (point on objects at different distances), let's say from 3-5m distance to the mfd, the AF won't work at all; I have to turn the focus barrel manually close the distance I want to focus and half press shutter to gain AF.
With the new 1.04, when I change focus distances like above, the AF works well, even though some back-forth movements of the lens motor would occur if the distance different is big but I guess this was due to the motor design of the lens.
Low light AF, 50% hit on the test condition: midnight, all lamps off, light come from street lamps through the big windows (ISO6400).

- Another performance review on the first gen A7 (mark 1), with Sigma 24-70/2.8: totally unusable, took very long like 5-15 seconds to AF (back and forth continuosly), and even when the AF acquired, it won't hit.

Picked up an A7rii and mc-11 to try with my canon lenses. Low light is definitely harder to get a lock than my 6D. 35mm f2 IS gets a lock but seems soft and never quite in focus. 70-200 f4 IS just continually hunts in the 150-200 range.

Anyone upgraded and tested with 35L II to see if it still works great? Also is the firmware downgradeable? Can't risk breaking my most used combo of A7RII / MC-11 / 35L II.
Thanks.

I don't think the Sony is nearly as good in ultra-low light for AF with Canon lenses as is a Canon body like 6D, 5D3, etc.

I recently shot a house concert in extremely dim light with a 5DsR and 50L, and then the same location a couple months later with a7R and a7R2 with 50L, Sony 28/2 and Loxia 35. I needed to use manual focus on the 50L (and Loxia, of course!), and even the 28 was spotty on handling AF in the dim conditions.

Still, the Sony images looked pretty great in the dark lighting, once I switched to MF. But for dark events, I think a 1DX or 1DX2 would be best, and 5D4 in the running as well. (I don't own any of those, and seldom shoot "dark" without a tripod and still subjects.)

Otherwise, I find the MC-11 to be terrific, and am willing to have slightly slower AF acquisition and confirmation on the Sony body in good light. The plus side is that in good light, the Sony is very accurate with the Canon lenses.

In short, I don't think it's the Sigma MC-11 or Sigma lenses that are the problem. The "problem" is the Sony body not being designed for this situation.

Different horses. . .

I have no issues in low light with either A7Rii or a6300 and native lenses. With adapted lenses, some of them do hunt a bit depending on the lens while others do great. This happened with mc11 and MB IV so I disagree that is the bodies

You might be right, and I'll defer to you if you have more experience in these ultra dim light scenarios. I still feel "the best" solution would be Canon or Nikon DSLR, but overall I was very happy with the images I got with Sony and both the native 28 AF, and Canon 50L AF/MF (I didn't use the Loxia all that much). Excepting: Sony a7R2's IBIS was awesome and helps both 28/2 and Canon 50L!

Just curious how low of light you are shooting in? I had to stop at 1/60 of a second and didn't really want over ISO 6400, but often had to raise exposure in PP by 1-2 stops. ISO ranged from about 500-10,000. Under these dim mini-Christmas bulbs, things were much darker than this image seems after PP. The 28's AF performed and I was happy with the results, including stitching the 50L to MF. I think native lenses would do a better job, like the 35/1.4, but we are talking really about adapter and non-native lenses, and I don't see that as much of any issue.

The main thing is I enjoyed myself, the pictures came out, and the bands are happy. So, put another mark in Sony's win column.

Hello all, a question that I did not see, with a Sony A6500 latest FW and Sigma MC-11 FW 1.02 and Sigma 150-600 C Canon mount will it improve image sharpness by using the Sigma dock on the 150-600 and adjusting the front & back focusing or doing the focusing calibration? I have not done that yet and thinking that it will not help or make focusing any sharper because image focused on the Sony cameras sensors as to a Canon body with the mirror?

Anybody tested that yet?

Thanks
Christopher

Hey, this might be a good news. I just got a hold on a Tokina 11-16 2.8, which was reported to AF-unusable with Sigma MC-11. But when I tried it with Sigma MC-11 this morning, its AF works well.
I'm using firmware 1.04 for Sigma MC-11, A7ii firmware 3.20, and Tokina 11-16 2.8 first version.
Can any1 with firmware 1.03 or earlier confirm about this Tokina 11-16 2.8 compability ?
If not then this is a big gain for the new firmware since Tokina 11-16 2.8 is a favorite lens for astro and landscape (also very affordable).

Hello, I'm using this MC-11 with a Zeiss Milvus 2/50M on an A7ii. It seems to work very nicely, the aperture remains open until the shot is taken, however Aperture Preview (when assigned to a button) does stop the lens down correctly.

The only thing which does not work, and perhaps cannot work, is Automatic MF Assist when adjusting focus.

Does anyone know how the Sigma 24-105 F4 Art or the Canon 24-105 F4 perform with the A7ii? This lens is on the compatibility list, but I have not seen much reviews on it.

The Canon 24-105 works on my a6500 so I would think it would work on the A7ii.

It also enables video AF with Sony mirrorless cameras that offer PDAF – including Sony a7, a7II, a7RII, a6000 & a6300."

Very promising clues for A7/A6000 achieve fast PDAF via adapter.

______

How can we determine that the MC-11 adapter is acquiring PDAF with the Sony AR7II and A6000s? No question that CDAF is acquired, but what about PDAF? I just installed the firmware update, v 1.30 for the 150-600mm lens as well as the update for the MC-11 firmware, v 1.04. I have yet to test it out for any changes/improvements.

For birds in flight with the Sony A6000/6300 + Sigma 150-600 what focus area and AF setting do you use?

It is possible to mount Canon EF-S lenses on the MC-11?

Secondly, does the AF work for the combination of A7+MC-11+Tamron 28-75/f2.8 (Canon FF mount)?

Using the MC-11 with my Tamron 28-75mm/f2.8 on the A6000, I find it hunts before achieving focus. Test was made in the shade on a partly cloudy day.

Test #1 parameter: Shade. 30mm, Av setting, center focus. Lens motor goes back and forth twice before achieving focus.
Test #2 parameter: Shade. 60mm, same setting as above. Same result as test #1 but slightly slower.
Test #3 parameter: 60mm, no shade, but diffused (stronger) light: Same result as #2.
All photos shown are full frame, uncropped (except for last one) and resized.

Firmware installed was 1.04. Results may vary depending on camera model. Still unanswered at this board: does PDAF kick in with the A6000+ MC-11?

No the Mc-11 cannot mount EF-S lenses. However, it can mount APSC format DC Art lenses from Sigma.
