Question for those who have non-Sigma lenses that do expose correctly for multiple shots at a non-wide-open aperture: are you seeing the camera do stop down metering as with native FE lenses or at least opening the lens back up after the shot?

I tested Canon 70-200/4 IS and TS-E 24 II. Neither has this problem. After one shot the aperture is back to wide open. However the IS on Canon 70-200/4 IS does not work well with the IBIS on my a7II.

I am debating purchasing this adapter for my 7R. How do you like it overall?

I have not really used it that much yet (preoccupied with a Pentax K-1). Having not used an AF lens previously on my A7r, I don't have much to compare performance with either. Typically, I just use focus/ recompose in single shot mode and my Sigma Art 24/1.4 with the adapter seems to do that just fine.

On the A7r, the Sigma Art's are quite huge and heavy so if you don't already own the Art lenses, that is a major thing to consider as well. I bought my lens when I owned the Sigma SD 1, at which point I was also able to try it on the A7r via a simple mechanical adapter (and I had to pre-set aperture on the SD 1 before mounting to the A7r to even use it this way). I was so impressed with the optical quality of the lens when used on the A7r that I held on to it after moving on from the SD 1.

Does the Sigma mc-11 Canon mount on Sigma Canon Mount lenses work as well as a Sigma mc-11 Sigma mount on Sigma mount lenses?

Fred, did you base this on just looking at whether adjusting aperture before taking a shot had effect or did you attempt to shoot at different apertures as well? I just tried an MC-11 with my 100 ZE and the aperture control does work however the lens's aperture only adjusts when taking a shot and then stays at that new aperture until the next adjustment + shot. It's possible to map DOF preview to a button and then use that to adjust the aperture prior to shooting.

However this lack of stop-down metering on my 100 ZE results in the same

With the ZE 15/2.8, the adapter didn't change the aperture at all (before or at exposure).
To shoot at my desired aperture, I had to mount the lens on a Canon body, set shutter speed to 'bulb' and remove the lens during the exposure. That was the one way to set my aperture.

Metering withe the adapter was all over the place. I would say it's unusable for the 15/2.8ZE and perhaps needs a firmware upgrade. (Which I don't think is going to happen since officially, the adapter only supports Sigma lenses)

New MC-11 firmware: 2016.05.13
SIGMA MOUNT CONVERTER MC-11 Firmware Update
The latest firmware update improves the phenomenon, detailed below, that occurs when some lenses that are not compatible with the SIGMA MOUNT CONVERTER MC-11 are attached to the MC-11. This firmware update is not necessary for customers who are only using compatible lenses, as this phenomenon does not occur when compatible lenses are attached and the LED lamp on the MC-11 is green (※1). However, we recommend that all customers update firmware for both the MC-11 and lenses to the latest version using SIGMA Optimization Pro (※2).
This firmware update does not guarantee accurate operation with lenses that are not compatible with the MC-11.

Just updated to latest firmware. It does not seem to improve IS problem. Metabones still get better results.

Picking my MC-11 up later today.

Unfortunately my Alpha mount 35mm f/1.4 Art isn't back from its mount change to EF-Mount, so I may not have anything to test it with just yet. I'll try with the Canon 100mm f/2 I have, but that sounds unlikely to do well.

Even though I love the build quality of MC-11 and its awesome lens release button, since I can't resolve the IS problem with MC-11, I think I will stick with Metabones and sell/return MC-11

The MC-11 obviously needs a couple more FW fixes. It took Metabones quite a few before things started to work properly, too I own both adapters and I can wait a bit more. Meanwhile, I just grab the MB, most of the time.

I returned mine. I may take a look at it again if and when continuous autofocus works with the Sigma 150-600.

Returned mine.
Tried out a Sigma 18-35 1.8...on my a6300 and ar2
Both with firmware updated.
I found total disappointment in focus or lack there of.
Had big hopes for it.
Will reconsider down the road, but for now I'm going total native lens.
Totally, over using adapters.

Just my 2 cents!!

This point in the firmware update notice sounded very promising given the aperture behavior I described above:

- When open aperture is not selected for shooting, the aperture does not return to fully open.

I've just updated the firmware and it does indeed fix the open-aperture metering issue. I'm no longer getting over-exposure on stopped-down shots. The aperture returns to wide-open both after exposure and after releasing DOF preview button. Still need to do some sharpness testing and testing with other EF lenses, but from a basic operation perspective the MC-11 seems to work well with my 100 ZE now.

Anyone who was hitting the subsequent shot over-exposure issue may want to update and re-test.

IMO, Sigma deserves huge kudos for getting a fix out this quickly for an issue that only affected lenses that were not even on their compatibility list!

Would really love to know the performance of the Sigma 150-600mm (Contemporary in particular) on the mc-11. One guy before said it performed flawlessly but anyone who can re-confirm its' performance? especially in AF-C and video? Looking to use this for beach/surfing photos, would be better if I can pick up the sigma 150-600mm with workable focus rather than a tamron !

This is interesting and hopeful.

"CONCLUSION
At a cost of £220.00 the MC-11 SA-E has has exceeded my expectations by a long shot. For my needs, it is a product that enables me to use my favourite Sigma glass on my Sony bodies painlessly. The only bugbear I have is the aperture closing after focus is acquired with some lenses. If you can live with that, then this adapter is a great solution for anyone who wants to use Sigma Global Vision glass on their Sony E Mount bodies. Compared to the Commlite, I can’t recommend it highly enough. This is the best E Mount adapter solution I’ve used to date. Kudos to Sigma. 😉"

It is not clear to me whether he has used a Metabones IV adapter, though. If not, I can understand his conclusion

Good news to report on my MC-11 and my quick initial tests with my Canon 100mm f/2.0. Seems to meter and focus well. Just as well as on my Canon bodies. I've only tried static subjects so far, but I have tested it in very poor light and it locked focus quickly and accurately.

This is an older generation Canon lens so it should be a worst case scenario.

I haven't tried AF-C, nor moving subjects yet, but my preliminary experiences are very good. And that's not even with Sigma lenses so far.

Anyone experienced a problem with MC-11 and Canon IS lenses? I tested MC-11 with Canon 70-200/4 IS. It seems when the lens IS switch is on, both lens IS and body IBIS are working and causes some confusion. When lens IS is off, both lens IS and IBIS are turned off. I tested with 200mm and 1/50s. With MC-11 I sometimes get blurry shots with lens IS on and mostly blurry shots when lens IS off, but with Metabones I mostly get clear sharp shots, with lens IS on or off.

I spent a good while in a camera shop with a Canon 135L mounted on my A7ii with both a Metabones IV and MC-11. The 135L isn't an IS lens, but I did notice that the IBIS worked far better on the Metabones than the MC-11. Whether literally true or not, I would say there was practically no IBIS with the MC-11. Focusing was acceptable with both; it's the IBIS that's stopping me from getting an MC-11.

I have the Sigma 150-600 Contemporary with both the A6000 and the A7 mkII. With the A6000 I am not happy with AF-C, but it works better with the A7 mkII. I tested it a bit more today with birds about 150-200 meters away from me. Then AF-C worked, but this is not any great challenge for a continuous autofocus, since the lens doesn't have to be focused much at all. Also I used the center AF and "low" on the frame advance speed.

The A7 mk II gave me better DR and more detail in the birds.

The strange thing is that AF-C works, at least to some extent, with video on the A6000.

So, AF-C with the MC-11 is still a work in progress. Sigma will release updated firmware for the 150-600 C & S during this summer, that will address the AF algorithms.

You will have to judge for yourself if the AF-C on the Sigma 150-600 C is good enough for your own shooting, as things stand now. I think it can work only for very easy and simple tasks.

I hope this helps a little bit.

Edit: firmwares used
A6000 3.10
A7 mk II 3.10
MC-11 1.01
150-600C 1.02

A follow-up on my previous post. I tried my Sigma 150-600C again with the A7 mk II and MC-11, but this time at a distance of around 50-70 meters with birds and AF-C and shutter speeds around 1/2500 sec and frame advance rate set to "Low". This time the keeper rate fell, and maybe around 20% of the images were in focus. Erratic motion is difficult for the AF-C, but also busy background seemed sometimes to be an issue.

My conclusion is that we shall have to wait and see how the AF-C turns out with better firmware. As it is now, we can't count on it to capture "the decisive moment". However, all other aspects of the lens works very well. The AF-S works nicely and precisely. Also the Sigma 150-600C is sharp at 600mm, so I get many nice pictures, even without AF-C. The electronic integration with the camera is excellent, there have been no lock-ups or glitches so far. In Lightroom the lens is automatically recognised and the lens profile is automatically applied, as if it were a native E mount lens, very nice and practical.

In the field the lens is very portable and even hand-holdable.

I received my mc-11 yesterday.
The first thing I did was update the firmware of the mc-11 to its latest version.

The camera and lens I'm using is the a7s with the 18-35 f1.8A.
FF at 35mm and crop mode for video.

The quick test shots I took around the house shows the AF to be fast and usable.
I will do some test against the eos m and 70d in live view this weekend.

AF-S with different focus areas works well.

AF-C tries to work but it is too slow to be useful. Refocusing for the consecutive shots goes through the whole back and forth motion and so it can only get about 1~2 shots per second.
The EVF can not update quick enough and so it feels like the shots are taken out of focus but when i replay them they are in focus so it is working.

I didn't try video mode that much but it seems like it does work. the problem is it is noisy. you can hear the lens going through the quick back and forth motion constantly. It is noisier than when the lens was used on the 70D. I'll try different setting when i have time.

I also tried mounting the EF 40mm f2.8 stm but unfortunately it never was able to lock focus.
The MF focus by wire and aperture works as its suppose to.
With the commlite adapter although it is slow it does focus.
