It wouldn't be as funny if it wasn't 100% true...as soon as he started walking along the glass the thing perked right up...I was like "Grayson...stand right here in front of daddy" Worked

with all due respect, I strongly suggest you:
1- do a clean install of the OS
2- have someone who is proficient with computers take a good look at what you have and what is going wrong with it and why.
1) classic, but usually infeasible advice. I have been running the same computer since 2008 with two OS upgrades, never a re-install. Here's another idea that is less destructive to the customizations and software installations:
sfc /scannow
This repairs damaged system files. And, of course:
chkdsk /r
which finds and fixes (if possible) disk errors.
2) absolutely. The symptoms described are only going to get worse
D500 + 70-200 f2.8 VRII, 1/250sec, f5, ISO7200 and run through Noiseware noise reduction.
D500 + 70-200 f2.8 VRII, 1/625sec, f5, ISO16000 which is about .75stops under exposed adjusted in post process it is possible equivalent to ISO21,300. Run through Noiseware noise reduction. run through Noiseware noise reduction.
I truly think it runs a little deeper then info given originally.
performing a clean install of 10 is a relatively simple operation and will most likely result in a considerably higher performing machine.
laptops are by their nature a problem child. the makers add hardware "features" and fail to support them beyond that particular OS that was originally installed. Dell is notorious for this.
my mothers laptop (HP) is running 10 and the only real issue is the wireless. resolved with a USB one and turning the internal device off. that machine is circa 2005ish. it is not particularly fast but functional.
complaining about an issue does not t/s it or, in the end, fix it. regretfully, depending on what is loaded in ones computer can be a big issue.
So picked it up today in Shanghai from my B&M guy. No markup, so the straight US$2,000 (prices in China are often similar to the USA).
First impressions put a big smile on my face, this is far similar in size and heft to my D800E than to the D7100 I hated and couldn't wait to get rid of (just felt like a toy in my large hands). The size is great and I love the sharply indented grip which fits my fingers very well.
As for the rest, it's going to be very easy to get used to since most dials and buttons are the same/similar. Focusing (in the shop in low light) was very fast, I mounted the Tamron 70-200 VC I'd brought along to try on it, with zero micro-adjustments.
A word of warning on batteries, as has been mentioned, the original battery in the box was uncharged so they had to search around for a charged battery for me to test the camera - and the D500 refused all 4 'copies' from various brands - only accepting a Nikon original. I don't know if anyone has had better luck with any other brand ?
Saturday I'll go out birding with this and the 200-500 plus x1.4 TC.

Not talking about my old laptop. This is my new one, a factory fresh Asus that came with Win10. Windows 10 has a well documented issue with some drivers that worked fine with 7-8, but perform erratically or not at all with 10.
what drivers are you referring to for what devices?
the term "well documented" is fairly broad reference. and again if a company chooses not to support driver development for their product that's another way they use to put it to rest. I can put up a list of "offenders" who have done this due to just plain poor design too. again blaming the OS for what is not its issue is rather counterproductive.
in the past few years I have lost the ability on a few products:
senneheiser usb headphone adapter. not due to the OS but due to the voltage levels in USB 3 ports. no tolerance. so much for backwards compatibility.
some USB 2 card readers. not a biggie. I just don't buy their product anymore. oh, that was with windows 7
a few wireless adapters
now, my slide scanner (Nikon 4000ED) still works with third party software and a firewire 400 adapter.
my HP4P printer (parallel port) printer still works using an adapter to network. that is the oldest working computer hardware I own and over 20 years old.
my "crash test dummy" machine in my basement is a 8+ year old x48 MB from gigabyte. it has had 34 renditions of the next generational update to Windows 10 (coming late July) loaded into it. it runs a software cocktail that warms it up a bit too. in that time I've done 5 clean reinstalls and it has only crashed 2 times.
Does anyone know if ViewNX 2 can convert RAW files from the D500? Nikon use to send a disc of this program with the cameras, but looks like they don't any more. My PS is old and doesn't update any more for the camera raw. So looking for something free for now to use until I can buy the newer version of PS.
what new version of PS are you intending to "buy"? there won't be one. adobe went to a subscription plan 3 years ago.
its $10/mo for PScc w/ LRcc included
both currently support the D500 already
it is part of the creative cloud. been using it since day one.

Thanks, I'll try that.
I use the PS Elements, the one I have is 11 and they are up to 14 now. Plan to pick it up soon when I get some extra $ for it.

View NX-i is the current tool from Nikon and it includes it raw convertor Capture NX-D as a dual install package. and yes it is free.
I am new to NX-i. The information window on the right displays all the shot information of the photo selected. However the ISO only displays Auto (if in auto mode) I checked all the preferences and did not see an option to display the actual ISO shot at. Capture NX-D on the other hand displays ISO Auto (Actual ISO).
Is this the intended behavior ? I use View NX-i on a Mac
watch out for it carefully. BH just had a sale on it for $45. they do it a few times a year.
someone here said awhile back that it was a dead product. it just keeps going and going though.
i'm looking for it for a friend that needs it too. of course they told me they needed it a week after BH had the sale
I did get one copy (another friend with a 7000) and 14 is pretty darn good. nice added feature set for its price tag. definitely a product that keeps the "challengers" away at that level.
sites to keep an eye on are Photography bay, photo rumors and Nikon rumors for sales on it.

I have noted that too under windows. you know, right hand and left hand communication issues.
Dark when I got home with the new D500 but this is gobsmacking. Superb low noise and pin-sharp at 100%. Shot at home ;- D500 w. 200-500 @ 210mm - f5.6 - 1/400 - 40,000 ISO. SOOC, this is the full low-res jpg.
If all my 40,000 ISO shots come out like this then f5.6 is irrelevant and birding takes on a new perspective.

That's impressive for a DX camera... The noise is noticeable, but the image is still 100% usable depending on the application.
The anticipation of getting the D500 is getting to me. Have to wait till they ship more out but from the looks of the photos people are posting and how well the AF is, definitely will be worth the wait!
