I don't use amazon for camera gear or any real high priced item. patience with my dealer and theirs with me give me and them earn us both good returns on investment. my primary supplier actually gives me really good service and does their best to maintain the professional relationship we have.
Well... after waiting all this time, years, and now months,
mine is shipping today...errr...
It was, I paid for it then I called and canceled it! Am I crazy?
I have been juggling and thinking and wondering, much confused.
How good will this be? I like the pro camera arrangement, yet,
I have begun to think maybe I only need the D7200. Yes, I am
probably a bit nuts because the D7200 is not set up like I am so
used to...
So...now I am going to be brave and buy a D7200.
Hope everyone enjoys their new D500's... I will be reading
all your comments, and salivating!
I am a NPS member and pre-ordered two from B&H. I was told this morning that if it does not ship today the next shipping date will be May 2nd. Needless to say, this will be my last pre-order from them. I like their service otherwise, but need to limit my orders from them to stock items.
I can appreciate their well known policies, but I have my own priorities as well.

most humans have the innate ability to adapt to a situation and when necessary overcome or work with its perceived limits. the D7200 is a excellent tool and limits it has few.

I have purchased quite a bit of my life's photo gear from B&H since 1977. their processes are pretty transparent. you also know that when you choose to pre-order with any and that is ANY outlet there will be a list (and that list will most likely be large with them) and the output to said store can/will be limited by the distribution of Nikon for they do have many other stores they will need to supply (as B&H is not the center of the universe). so you rolls de dice and you take what comes.
priorities? well yeah, I like to think that way too. adaption is a good term too along with patience.

I think you're missing the reasoning that their next shipment date would be may 2nd...it's passover. So he'll be waiting an extra 10 days because they close to observe a religious holiday.

yeah, and? every darned year I see this happen with people. B&H subscribes to a certain life/faith practice. we, if we choose to do business with them, need to respect that. I've done it with them since '77 good catholic that I am
they do not control Nikons supply chain and timing. all those cameras will be sold whether it be to you or someone else.
Lots of people getting their D500's today, mostly non-B&H preorders, NPS members, and smaller stores. Amazon is shipping some too. The B&H delay is rather disappointing.
Don't get me wrong. It's their sandbox, they can do what they want. I just know I'd be disappointed if my already delayed pre-order was delayed further by it...
Notice...disappointed, not upset.

I agree completely with what you say about patience, pre-orders, availability, and B&H policies and have purchased a lot of gear from them since the 70's as well. They are a great retailer. My only issue is with the fact that they will have deliveries to them today or tomorrow with NPS priorities (yes, I checked, and I pre-ordered within minutes of availability) and because they are closed it may delay shipping by 10 days, plus or minus, for anyone in that situation, not just me. The issue is with me, not them, for my lack of foresight in this extended down time.
I can't argue about when you ordered. what I can say is there are minutes and then there are minutes (especially the well know new York minute) and you also know that there is the internet and its ability to deliver how many orders in milliseconds?
yes, I distribute my operation to a few select locations in doing business.
District Camera (ePhotocraft) got my business on this one. we have a good business relationship.
Picking mine up later today or tomorrow morning from a local shop, then taking it out for some kayak birding this weekend. Will be testing it with my 200-500 f5.6, 200-400 f4 VR1 and 500 f4D AF-S II. Can't wait!
