Focus peaking is missing. (Yes, it is turned on in settings.) Does it not work with M-mount lenses on the SL?
Yes it works with M lenses. However you need to select the peaking in the the display options as well. I think it's the one after the levels in the loop. And it's very subtle, compared to the Sonys. Leica would do well to add an option to increase the peaking levels.

Wait, Adam, I'm confused. Are you saying that the SL could replace your much-loved S system?
I'm saying in theory for work it could. But my heart wouldn't allow that!
But in theory (work wise), a Nikon kit or a Canon kit could replace any of my Leica gear.
I won't be replacing the S-system w/an SL. But I'd sure like to get ahold of an S-adapter L.
I think the SL will end up being a bridge between the M and S. I'll still keep the M and S systems
But maybe if the SL is a good little system, I'll get rid of the Nikon kit.

Hmmmm... I think mine switches off when I put on the M adapter.
Thanks, flash, I will take a look at that, but I think I have it set in the display option.
Thank you, Adam, for clarifying your thoughts about your S-system. You had me worried there for a minute.
I am not here to bash the SL, but for sure it is making me appreciate my M240, M246, and old S2-P more than ever. I, frankly, find focusing with the rangefinders easier, quicker, and more accurate than focusing with the EVF on the SL, as good as it is. Obviously, I might think differently if I had an AF lens for the SL, but for now I am holding off on buying the zoom.
My plan was to use my M lenses on the SL while waiting for the 50 prime and S adapter (for the two S lenses I now own), but given the issues I am having with the M adapter, the inoperative (inadequate) focus peaking, and other minor quirks, such as the burdensome process for setting exposure compensation, I am beginning to question the validity of my plan.

I have no problem with peaking using M lenses via T adapter. However, Peaking is not very prominent when using F0.95, F1.4 with my 50mm. With 90/2 apo at F2, it is a bit more visible.
Loads of peaking level at F8 with WATE. However, I find that focus peaking is not really quite as useful with the lens wide open. With Noctilux or 35/1.4 fle wide open, focus peaking is not reliable at all with A7r ii and not very visible on SL. I find focus magnifier much more accurate and useful for both A7r ii and SL at wider end of the aparture.

If the S-007 is anything to go by. The S-adapter L will focus the S-lenses faster then what you're getting with the S2. More then twice as fast

BTW I did not realize the were no steps in peaking intensity. I use that all the time on the A7.mod

It struck me as a bit strange that there's no intensity as I too use it on my Sony's.
I did wonder whether this is one area where the massive resolution of the EVF works against itself. As each pixel is smaller does that mean it's harder to see peaking in the viewfinder? I find the SL peaking OK but not as good as the Sony's. OTOH the spirit level on the Leicas is far better than the Sonys.

Didn't you only have a 70S? You get a new lens?
I purchased a used 120S from B&H, but it would not autofocus, so I sent it back, and they sent a replacement, so now I have the 70 and 120, and looking to pick up the 45, and possibly the 24.
When this camera was first announced I was one of those A-holes bashing it, but after seeing some of the sample photos found online, I'm starting to really like the color rendering when compared to the a7rii even though Adam has pointed out that it has some problems.
I'm also really curious to see how the EVF compares to the a7rii with my own eyes, the way I see some reviewers describe it... it sounds absolutely amazing. I was a bit disappointed with the a7rii's EVF, manually focusing with wide angles has been very difficult for me. I've taken so many shots where I thought I had focused correctly using peaking and magnification, only to find out on my computer that I actually missed it. To me there is nothing more disappointing in regards to photography than taking a picture that has great potential only to find out later on that it has to be binned (in addition to forgetting your memory card while not setting your camera to disable release w/o card or dropping your camera). I don't remember having that much trouble with my first a7r and the same lens.
Lastly, true weather sealing is a huge plus. Really wish Sony found a way to implement that with a7x cameras instead of their "weather resistant" "solution".
All that being said, I simply can't get over the price. I understand it's a Leica but it just doesn't make sense to me. It has a couple things that I really like over the a7rII but I just don't see it being $4k better. You could get a Batis 25, Batis 85 or FE 90 macro, FE 55 and some sort of legacy telephoto lens with that money if you already own an a7x. Maybe I'm just blinded by the fact that I can't afford it at this time... Oh well.
Btw thanks a lot Adam for your thoughts on the SL.

Such small things to fix. These camera companies really should have a feedback system so that users can submit features that get voted on and are therefore taken seriously. Why is it so hard to put such a simple process in place.

So true. I am guessing that the Leica designers thought the SL looked nice, but I don't understand why it had to be that big - and that zoom... Honestly, when Huff put the RX1r II next to it... the SL just looked ridiculous and the RX1r infinitely more endearing.
Not sure about this camera - just guessing that yes, it'll be completely niche, yet it may possibly be another minor failure for Leica in terms of never meeting hoped-for sales targets.
Yes, nice camera but I am not sure if many Leica enthusiasts - ones who frequently travel - will warm to the bulk (which Huff definitely downplays).
Nonetheless, it looks like a powerful imaging machine.

One of these ski seasons I'm gonna come visit you
Give Leica a bit.. They'll sort these things out. They have incentive too, more lenses are coming, and they want to sell them.

OHHHHH I SEEE.... Ok, I remember you telling me the 120S wouldn't focus. I thought you returned it. Good to hear that you've received another one. It's pretty awesome right?! Good for portraits (headshots) and just fun for walking around with.
The 45S is AMAZING. It's like the 35FLE and the 50APO merged into one lens But ate a little to much, got fatter and slower

I actually think they should have priced them at $6,000 And if you give it a year. I bet you'll find it selling in that range.

I don't notice it at all.. The bulk. Sure it's a bit heavy with the zoom on it. But a good strap and I don't even pay attention. Though I'm use to using 1Dx cameras and the S-system etc.
My M does feel smaller for sure. But if we think about it like that. Then everything should be micro micro. My phone takes damn good images. Why not have a camera the size of my phone w/a FF sensor and a mount? It's possible.. It would be stupid, but it's possible.
Maybe I'm just annoyed at the size complaints.. Because I actually need to work out. So bigger is better for me

Yes you are right. I should have said $6k at BHphoto. So euro price would be $5k
I'll probably get my second SL from EU. But will wait till the S-adapter comes out before buying the body. Since right now I'd rather use my M bodies with M lenses (for no other reason then the fact that I like RF focusing).

Adam, how easy is it to change exposure compensation? Do you have to use the menus?
You can set the exposure comp easy. You just press and hold a button and jog the wheel.
Which brings up another point. Something that annoys me. IF you're changing exposure compensation. Then need to change say WB. You have to give the camera a second to switch from LCD to EVF then back to LCD to make the change. I suppose if it were all LCD work it would be fluid, or all EVF work (EVF in the menus). But I have mine set to EVF for shooting and LCD for preview/menu and the switchover takes to long when going from ISO settings to WB etc..
