Think I'm going to break down and pull the trigger on the RX1rII, likely selling my RX1 and also A7rII to help fund it.
Tried to resist, thinking of plenty of excuses, but ultimately thinking back on the past 2 or 3 years with the RX1 and all the different Alpha camera models, I've quite enjoyed traveling with the Rx1 most of all, and really didn't feel I've given up too many shots. There is certainly something freeing about packing for a trip and just grabbing a single body, a couple of filters and a spare battery/charger, vs. trying to pick out a few different lenses, adapters, filters of all the different sizes I might want, which bag to carry it all in etc.
Looking at most of my wider scenics I've shot with the 16-35, vs the pano's I've done with the RX1 I think I can get by okay (and really shoot the 16-35 at its longer end).
Also will miss my other regular lens, the excellent 55/1.8, but the RX1 certainly is no slouch for some nice subject isolation when desired, and with the added resolution, should allow enough cropping.
Now just need to find one in stock, which hopefully won't be too difficult. I've probably missed out on the latest batch of new stock though, but maybe all the current orders will get filled and there will still be some surplus....hard to really judge the overall demand for the camera. ...Show more →
Resistance is futile, welcome to the other side millsart. What you wrote about picking up one body to travel vs lenses could've been written by me. The lens that I might miss as well is the 55, the others that I've had aren't as irreplaceable as that one but like you, the 35 just has a look to it that I would pick over the 55 if I had to choose.
I ordered mine from B&H last Monday, 11/30, and they showed expected availability as being 12/8. Got a shipping notice yesterday, received it a few hours ago. I would guess the next batch should be coming in about 7-10 days or so.
Haven't had a chance to open my box yet, but I have the Sony lens hood, thumb grip, screen protector, and leather case sitting on my desk waiting. Also picked up a Mindshit gear trail backpack while selling my Panorama bag to downsize. Also picked up a a mini Filter Nest to store my ND and CPL which will also conveniently hold 2-3 extra batteries as well. Combine that with a new smaller, lighter tripod (haven't decided which one yet), and my GAS has hit an all-time high.
But I'm sure my kids will be happy that I won't be constantly stopping to change lenses and other kids will be happy that I'm smacking them in the head with my gear while chasing after mine.
