Yes, we want a smaller, fast native 35mm lens.
I think you would be happy with an used EF135/2. You would be able to resell it for about the same price down the road.
AF works great with the new Metabones firmware (minus eyeAF, which would be really useful at this FL)
It's sharp wide open. Bokeh and rendering are amazing.
Fred, have you seen the new TechArt DEO Saker Falcon Lite? The possibility of using eyeAF on a Canon lenses is drawing near. It works now on older A7 series (not the A7RII) and the adapter still has a lot of bugs to work through. I'm waiting for the full eyeAF support, then I'll get myself either the 85/1.2 or the 135/2.

OT
I have a wedding this weekend, and my kit will be the FE 35/1.4, FE 55/1.8, hopefully arriving tomorrow the 50L, 85L II and the ZA 135/1.8. This is probably my final portrait lens kit for a while now.
I agree the FE 35/1.4 is large, but the results IMO are better than the Leica 35 Lux FLE. So for now this is an excellent 35 where rendering and separation are needed. It is probably important to note, that for AF options small/light fast lenses will not be an option without paying a huge premium.
The 135L with the Metabones IV v45 and the A7rII works really well. Also the 135/1.8 ZA with LEA4 works better IMO and I feel the ZA 135/1.8 is probably the best all round 135 there is. If you are doing portraits, the lens is sublime, and still it is amazing for landscapes. The only issue is the lens is noisier having the older screw AF drive.
Having the two 135's I decided to sell my 135L this weekend, as I only wish to carry one 135mm lens

Love the Sony 135 1.8 absolutely sick of the center point AF cluster. I need AF points much farther out than that cluster. Why I sold the Minolt 200mm. The LA-E4 needs to be replaced.
Fn mode is where they emulate the communication codes of a native lens, not fully though cause of technical complexity of how Sony programs these things. With the latest firmware, TechArt suggests people not using the Fn function on A7RII for now, but it should work in the future.

This thread completely derailed. We gotta go back to something related to 'rx1'.
I think I'm largely to blame for that. My apologies to everyone.
As for something related to RX1, in anticipation of the RX1R II I've already ordered the FOTGA L-bracket that millsart recommended earlier in the thread.
p.22 #8 · Announced: RX1R II with 42MP sensor and EVF
Post about the RX1? Well now that the older model has come down in price it resumes being extremely tempting. My a850 with sigma 35mm 1.4 is too big to bring around for general use as I don't like the attention it draws, and the Sony 35mm f2.8 seems like a decent lens for my a7r but I would like more separation and it costs just as much as the sigma used! For now the a7r + sigma 30mm f2.8 with the baffle removed is doing pretty well for me for some things (though at either 6x7 aspect or 1.2x center crop), the dark corners are annoying to look at and compose with. The Sony 28mm f2 is the obvious choice, but I prefer 35mm
Anyway the point is that the RX1 seems like such a great carry around all purpose camera! I probably don't need a 4th digital camera though. Either way I'm excited to see reviews for this new model regarding AF performance, that should be very interesting to see if low light AF accuracy improved by a significant amount

Your not alone, me too but need to remember good data is good data so end of day it's not a bad thing. IMHO

Looks like some announcements next week so maybe we will get a better idea what to do but my guess we won't see anything announced from Sony in regards to a new 35 F2. It will come from Zeiss in Batis is my guess. I think Sony is happy with there 35 1.4 and 2.8 and Batis makes more sense. I'm saying this because it is related to the Rx as some of us even just in this thread are considering it in replacement for our 35 1.4. It's certainly a nice option to consider, I know I am.

I think the RX1Rii is slightly thicker than the RX1. I emailed FOTGA to find out if the RX1 grip and L bracket would fit version 2.0 or if they were going to make a new grip/bracket for version 2.0, but haven't heard back from them yet.

It looks slightly thicker probably because of the new tilting LCD Monitor.

I just received my rented RX1R and while playing with the settings, I can't find a way to use a crop mode (or zoom) while shooting RAW.
It makes sense that the fixed lens full frame RX1 does not offer a APS-C crop mode but at least it's a function that works in RAW mode with the A7 series cameras.

Difficult to argue with this logic. It makes sense that Sony would announce an FE 85/2 or 85/1.8 next week or thereabouts even though there's already a Batis 85/1.8. But given that there are already two FE 35mm lenses it's highly unlikely they'll offer a third. And for the same reason I doubt that Zeiss would regard a Batis 35/2 as a high priority. Which means that right now the RX1 series camera is the only game in town.

From B&H Photo:
RX1/R:
Dimensions (WxHxD) 4.5 x 2.6 x 2.7"
RX1R II
Dimensions (WxHxD) 4.5 x 2.6 x 2.8"
I figured that, as Fred suggested, the slight increase in depth was due to the tilt screen and because the width and height hadn't changed they were probably using the same body shell for the new model. No doubt I'll find out, eventually.
p.22 #15 · Announced: RX1R II with 42MP sensor and EVF
RX1(R) has the crop 50mm mode in jpeg only. It is too bad they don't have apsc raw crop. The new RX1R M2 camera has 4:3 and 1:1 views. 1:1 view is close to apsc crop width. Similarly 1:1 could be useful with A7R II with the apsc lenses but Sony doesn't put these in each of these cameras.

It seems to me that it would be more useful to have 50mm crop lines than an actual cropped RAW mode. At least that way you can easily frame for 50mm equiv, and should you decide you need to have a 40 or 80mm equiv you still have that option back at home.
Sadly, I would also have to bet that we won't see a 35mm f/2 from Sony. Too bad, because I think it's one of the most requested lenses for this system that I've seen.* In part because the RX1/rII all of a sudden get a lot more competition if there's a fast, good enough, small enough, cheap enough equivalent for the A7(x) series cameras.
I eventually expect Sony will sell such a lens, but why would they shift resources in that direction when there are so many other native AF lenses that need making-- when they already have two at the FL (4 if you include zooms), and an RX-series (which isn't cheap) to protect.?
The counter-argument is that if Sony released a bunch of reasonable lenses-- like the FE28-- they'd sell one to most of their photographers, even those who would pick up the 1.4 for special reasons, or the RX1 for ultimate compactness/perfect matching of sensor to lens.
*Fair enough to say that I'm responsible for roughly 50% of the requests.

I don't see how I would benefit from cropped raw or even APS-C crop lines when the reason for cropping is using a fixed focal length lens. As long as I am cropping because I can't get the framing any tighter, and I have to crop in post anyway, I would never use the APS-C lines for anything. It would be different if I used crop mode to deliberately get smaller files, then cropped RAW makes sense. Crop lines make sense when composing for a different aspect ratio, and wanting to keep the full image height. Is is very difficult to compose for a square image and keep the full image height without 1:1 crop lines.

You may not benefit. But plenty of folks prefer to have some kind of guide as to where a certain FL crop* would get them-- fixed lens or otherwise. We all work in different ways.
On the flip-side, you may find composing for 1:1 using full-height difficult without crop lines-- but I don't.
*which could also be thought of as a specific megapixel/resolution crop line, also potentially useful when you're limited in foot-zoom or not
