Great shot!! I think many reviewers have over emphasized the "specialty" aspect of the 5D s s/r. I think the camera is much more versatile than given credit. The rented 5ds I had for a week basically performed like a charm in Medium Raw mode (28 mp) for when I did not need the High MPs. In fact I would like to see a Medium Raw vs 5diii comparison review somewhere. I have really never needed to shoot (even evening/night shots) anything above 3200 iso let alone the 5ds very usable 6400 iso. With the grey market prices below $3000, the 5ds is really a good all around camera for the shooters who do need the high megapixels every now and then. For Architectural shooters (like myself) and landscape shooters, its a no brainer!!!
BigC : obviously as its 'only' a studio camera I have to assume you went to great lengths to set that jungle studio up , and also went to great lengths to dress your cat up to look like a Jaguar

I'll be taking the 5Ds to Nepal in a few weeks to shoot migrating raptors there - let's see if it can do better than the 5D3 at 1600iso and in slightly underexposed areas - here are a couple of examples.
It was tough but I created a studio set built from coastal rocks, filled it with water agitated by an artificial surf machine, and then introduced a few hundred captive pelicans so that I could get this subject in front of my studio camera.
Dan, you did a great job setting up the studio environment to look natural. Even thinking about painting the rocks with bird droppings. Most of us would have forgotten that!

It was an awful, disgusting job, but my crew of minions took care of it quickly and without complaint. ;-)
if the buffer was bigger and it was a few frames faster, it would be the ultimate camera.
i am using it for wildlife and weddings. High iso is only an issue when i have to really push it far past 6400 in very dim lit areas.
i took the 5ds, 7d2 and 1dx to brazil, the 1dx was only brought as a backup or if i got annoyed with the other two. i didn't. The 5ds was mainly used, and i am very happy with how it handled the wilds of brazil.

Not that the pictures aren't great, but it does just go to show a 5D3 can do the job just as well, just not as large
I would accept that the 5DSR might be (wrongly) considered the studio camera, whether that really extends to the 5DS I don't know.

You could have done without the water and the surf machine, as it's not visible in the picture. Might have saved you some money on props... Tip for next time.

Still the 5D3 can do it too
Pretty well established that the 5Ds (R) is a 5D III with a few updates and a cleaner, higher resolution sensor that when down-sampled for equivalent output will produce equal or better results- only reason to buy a 5D III would be for the slight bump in FPS/buffer .

As long as we don't want more than 20 MP, the 5DS turns all your prime lenses into 1,5x zoom lenses, and extends the long end on all your zoom lenses with a factor 1.5. That is some value for many people. Compared to the 7DII for wildlife pixels per leopard, the 5DS AF system also seems to be more stable / not a lottery.
